So that's why the outlines in seasons 2-3 are wobbly, but in season 4 onward they're completely straight.LARRY22 said:I know this post is over two months old :P but according to here, Seasons 2 and 3 used a program called Toonz, and Seasons 4 and onwards used Toon Boom to color.

Is Toonz vector-based like Toon Boom?
Most likely. That could also be why a lot of the early Season 4 episodes (in terms of airing order) have SpongeBob colored a pale shade of yellow (but unlike Season 2, they were actually colored that way). I guess they were getting used to the new program (Toon Boom). Notice they were all aired in 2005.Original Raw and Uncut said:So that's why the outlines in seasons 2-3 are wobbly, but in season 4 onward they're completely straight.
I don't see the dot crawl. Is there something I'm missing?ThatSkynyrdKid70 said:So I found this Facebook post, with a clip from Procrastination, with both Palebob and dot crawl. Not sure if it's much of a step in getting closer to figuring this out, but it's something. Whenever Procrastination airs on TV, it always has Palebob, but the actual video is super clean, with no dot-crawl at all, but on the DVD releases, there isn't any Palebob and the colors are normal, but there's a bit of noticeable dot crawl. This clip seems to be a weird fusion of TV airings and the DVD release. Not really sure what else to make of it.

It's fairly hard to notice, just like DVD versions, but it's there. I think the colors of Palebob is what makes it less noticeable, because normally dotcrawl is caused by a fusion of really bright colors. Look on and around the candle at some points really closely and you might notice it. It's just really hard to notice. I had to rewatch it a few times before I even found one single bit of dot crawl. Might be harder for other people. When I came across it, it was first thing in the morning and I was really bored, so I had much more time to find some. I still haven't found all the dot crawl (granted I might have found the only bit of dot crawl in the one scene, but still), but I ended up giving up. It's too hard to find in this one, but I at least know it's there.jack_of_all_traids said:I don't see the dot crawl. Is there something I'm missing?
I found this link, and I think this is on here.11th said:I wish that the high-res scan of the panning show title was found before they updated the intro. The crew did what they could to clean the SD one up, but some spots where edits were made are very obvious, and there are other spots where it's a bit pixelated from being upscaled.
Nice find :thumb1: So 'The Secret Box' and 'Band Geeks' having SpongeBob a strange shade of yellow wasn't meant to be animated like that, and the source files possibly have the issue?spongebranch said:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=os4P_n6DAnY
Survival of the Idiots without dot crawl or VHS effect in general on Nick On Demand En Español
also I discovered that The Secret Box and Band Geeks when airing on Nick having SpongeBob with a normal shade of yellow is actually a color calibration error in their transfers. SpongeBob having an even darker shade of yellow than usual is actually an animation error that's pretty much burned into the negatives and animation files of those episodes sadly.
Also every episode on the Viking Sized Adventures DVD has PaleBob.

Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy III without dot crawl or rainbow artifacts in the German dub
Yes! Thank you, so it is very possible that Nick has thier original animation files. I haven't seen the episode look so clean and artifact-less (if that's a word, lol).spongebranch said:I edited my previous comment to show that Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy III might just exist without the rainbow effect
edit: I discovered that the Hebrew dub has no rainbow artifacts, pretty much confirming that the episode exists without the VHS effect (note the awkward silence until SpongeBob and Patrick show up)

1. Well, I found out on the Lost Media Discord that it was a color calibration error in Nickelodeon USA's broadcast masters. You can tell that some artifacts (like the sky) appear even lighter than usual whenever they air it, similar to how when Cartoon Network first aired that one Regular Show episode and it was somewhat unfinished. The source files were made that way with the darker yellow as even the international transfers have it.LARRY22 said:Nice find :thumb1: So 'The Secret Box' and 'Band Geeks' having SpongeBob a strange shade of yellow wasn't meant to be animated like that, and the source files possibly have the issue?

For the Patchy segments/live-action in Season 2, do you think they are availible without dot crawl?

2. Technically it's not just the original animation files, it's the Viacom International transfers which can look amazingly fresh no matter how old they are. It's a Nickelodeon flag logo that can save the quality of everything in SpongeBob.
3. They do, I saw the Croatian dub and they had no dot crawl.
Original Raw and Uncut said:Where on the discord did you find this, and was there any paticular reason why the VHS effect faded away in season 3
I honestly don't even know why.Original Raw and Uncut said:Any official nick datatbase on why episodes made around 2000 have the supposed VHS effect
You need a new TV, it looks like the blue tube is shot. CRT TVs get really bad color when they agespongebranch said:If i'm correct, the original version of Just One Bite exists without dot crawl in the Korean and Serbian dubs.
Watching the SpongeBob episode "Frankendoodle" air on Nick and it has to have the worst case of dot crawl I have ever seen in the entire series. Even worse than SpongeGuard on Duty and Jellyfish Hunter/The Fry Cook Games' dot crawl on Nickelodeon airings. Infact it's so bad that you can even see white streaks on the flower clouds and sharp edges around the pencil. It appears almost as if it was transferred over 3 CRT tv screens before being broadcast on Nickelodeon in the USA. It's so bad it's even noticeable from 15 feet away on a CRT tv screen.
It's so weird how Nicktoons airings of the SpongeBob episodes "The Abrasive Side/Earworm" have no Palebob.

sorry for the incorrect datestamps. These were clearly taken in October 2018.![]()
I know I have a CRT tv screen that has dot crawl and rainbow artifacts. I can notice dot crawl on transfers even on that because it's more noticeable from a distance on CRT screens.
