SpongeBob Comics Discussion

I kinda think Issue #28's a bit bland, probably because these 22-page stories that are about Mr. Krabs looking for treasure aren't my thing. :P I also think that the comic about those pirates was unnecessary since they kinda didn't have anything to do with SpongeBob. The only great comic was "My Life as a Crossing Guard"... that one was just hilarious. They really need to make a Winter issue that's just full of Winter-themed comics, which they did a little bit here I guess, but its just one of those "Mr. Krabs searching for treasure" comics, so I'm not going to count that.

SpongeBob Comics #29 is out this week. Check out these sneak peeks from some of the contributors and the editor:

Written by Derek Drymon, art by Vincent DePorter and various, cover by Jerry Ordway, Jacob Chabot.

Part 1 of their first Superhero Showdown! It all starts here! SpongeBob's first soggy serialized adventure "Showdown at the Shady Shoals" pulls anchor and begins a 5-issue voyage into aquatic action! In a tale featuring the art of Jerry Ordway, SpongeBob must find out who's stronger: his idol, Mermaid Man, or that noble anti-hero, the proud, muscular, poofy-haired sea king Viro Reganto? It's a question that will send SpongeBob, Mermaid Man, and Viro into a quest that spans decades, from the Briny Age of comics to the pulse-pounding present! Plus: SpongeBob's strange haircut ritual, a fill-in comic, SpongeFunnies by James Kochalka, and a guide to the ancient undersea language of Esperanto?

32 pages, $2.99.

Anything MM&BB AND Derek Drymon related already has my full attention. :wetpaint:

Those Patty Pal, Mrs. Puff in a ski mask and Boys Who Cry references. <3

From David DeGrand:

SPONGEBOB COMICS ANNUAL GIANT SWIMTACULAR #2
A4O7gHF.jpg

Written by Graham Annable and various, art by Jose Delbo and various, cover by Israel Sanchez.

United Plankton Pictures presents its second annual 48-page swimtacular, filled with super-themed stories by some of the finest cartoonists on dry land! When Mr. Krabs is kidnapped by a bitter restaurant critic (is there any other kind?), Squidward must reveal his super-secret identity--
the tentacled avenger known as The Squishy Knight!

48 pages, $4.99.

Oh my goodness! Oh my heavens and stars! $4.99 doesn't cover the cost for the last one. When was the only time they used that type of art for a SB cover? Seriously, I just love it so much with the colors and cuteness eeee!

Very pleased that they're continuing the annual Swimtacular. :D

We get a lot of superhero/MM & BB themed stories in the comics compared to the TV show, probably because of the obvious comic/superhero connection. It's nice that there's still a way for them to tell Mermaid Man stories since the future of Mermaid Man episodes is up in the air.
