SpongeBob Comics Discussion

SpongeBob Comics #27 cover and details:

In this issue: SpongeBob is dragged to court by a mob of angry jellyfish! It's 'Trial By Jelly' for SpongeBob and Patrick, by Vince DePorter (Scooby-Doo). Then cartoonist Israel Sanchez (Flight) puts Squidward through the ringer in 'Blue Bonnet Society.' Can Squidward survive the chaos after he interrupts SpongeBob's warm-up exercises? In 'The Amazing SpongeBot' by David DeGrand (Zombie Chasers) a mechanical future SpongeBob must stop the present-day Mr. SquarePants from performing a comedy routine - or else the future will be all messed up or something! Also in this issue: SpongeBob blows up big; Gary's shell gets detailed; and Patrick declares a new holiday. Plus: SpongeFunnies by James Kochalka and a kooky coral maze by Robert Leighton (New Yorker) and Gary Hallgren (Air Pirates).

"mechanical future SpongeBob"? I really hope that will be SpongeTron. :D

Anybody else get #24 yet? Great issue. I love Graham Annable's style so enjoyed seeing quite a long story from him as well as the back cover. There's also a new artist in this issue called Aaron Renier who does a really good SpongeBob. I hope we see him again.

SpongeBob Comics #28 cover and details:

In the remote wastes of the northern waters, something monstrous sits encased in ice, waiting to be thawed out by two of the silliest nincompoops in the Seven Seas. SpongeBob and Patrick track a wayward Mr. Krabs to the frozen ruins of an ancient civilization and must deal with the enraged creature that once ruled it! In the tradition of H.P. Lovecraft, Carl Barks, Roy Crane, and Snow Dogs comes a full-length SpongeBob arctic adventure, "The Curse of King Krabbe!" Also: Squidward's new career, comics-loving pirates stuck in pack ice, frigid facts about arctic ocean life, and more!

I say they thaw out either an underwater version of a wooly mammoth or SpongeGar.

I got the Special Superhero Swimtacular issue today.

They are seriously striking some Pre-Movie level gold here. The art is expressive and loose in the Post-Movie style but not gross (Season 6) or stiff (parts of Season 9) and the writing is so spectacular it's great. These comics are great examples of how to nail SpongeBob's style. Some of the comic crew needs to get on the show immediately, they're just so wonderful. Jacob Chobot/Gregg Scheill are my heroes ~

also Derek Drymon but there's no way he's ever coming back

Probably stated this before but... I honestly said at one point to myself that the comics might be better than the current episodes of today. Like one of them (forgot which) had a 4th wall joke about SB being a comic book writer. Or the fact that they do parodies of the Chronicles of Narina and etc.

Squid in Love aaaand SpongeBob gets sick? Talk about redoing episodes. :p But the scenes actually do look really interesting.

United Plankton finally cashes in on the trend that's sweeping comics -- science stories starring sea-dwelling squirrels! That's right! It's a whole issue starring Sandy Cheeks, SpongeBob's Texas twangin' rodent pal, who's an athlete and a lady scientist t'boot! See Sandy save Bikini Bottom from the horror of the gargantuan Aqua Chimp! Gasp as she goes paw-to-tentacle against Plankton in an invention showdown! Scratch your head as you try to comprehend what her oddest invention has done to SpongeBob's holes! And quake in fear as she discoveres the source of that awful noise coming from deep within an unexplored trench! All this, plus ocean facts about squirrels!
32 pages, $2.99.

An ENTIRE issue filled with Sandy themed comics?! I'm buyin'! 8D

The retro feel of the cover looks cool! And a little creepy. xD Where the hay are her eyelashes? 0_o

WOO SCI-FI! I love stories involving that kind of setting. Finally something dedicated to Sandy, even in the comics it felt like she didn't have a big appearance. :p

Patrick is adorable all sassy on the cover page.
