The difference between Pranks a Lot and Fear of a Krabby Patty would have been more subtle if PaL wasn't a markerbob episode and if C.H. Greenblatt hadn't worked on FoaKP.
It went from one of the most on-model episodes

to the most off-model episode ever (outside of post-sequel)

if an episode like the lost mattress had been the season premiere, perhaps the transition would have been a bit more smooth.

Early digital animation is very strange.

‘04 produced season 4 is the purgatory stage between pre movie and post movie. Early season 4 looks blurrier and more outdated than core/late season 4, but at the same time it still looks cleaner than season 3.

When I was little, I thought I The Lost Matress was a season 3 episode, the only way I was able to tell it wasn’t was because of SpongeBob’s voice and the pale shade of yellow. Those night time scenes of the lost Matress do look like they’re straight from season 3. It could be possible that although Fear of a Krabby Patty was the first to begin production, The Lost Matress could’ve been the first to be in animation stage.

Nope, The Lost Mattress was the 5th

The first was Fear of a Krabby Patty

The second Shell of a Man

The third Krabs vs. Plankton

The fourth Have You Seen This Snail?

And the fifth was The Lost Mattress

‘Fear of a Krabby Patty’ and ‘The Lost Matress’ look like they were produced in 2003. ‘Skill Crane’ and ‘Good Neighbors’ look like they were produced in 2004. Core season 4 looks like it’s from 2005, whereas the late season 4 (season 5-esque) episodes look 2006.

The production codes are based on when the episodes are conceived, for example One Krabs Trash was conceived before Squid on Strike but it's crearly animated later

The animation stage is typically pretty late in the production process. Final packaging numbers are usually based on when the episode is complete.

I think it looks like it was produced in 2003. The majority of season 2 and 3 episodes without dot crawl look like they were produced in 2001. ‘Krusty Love’ has very bad dot crawl and GoldenBob, which makes it look 1999. ‘Christmas Who?’ and ‘Ugh’ look 2002, whereas ‘The Sponge Who Could Fly’ looks 2004.

Do you also agree with my opinions?

I wouldn't say Christmas Who and Ugh are in the same year, they both look very drastically different.

‘Christmas Who?’ and ‘Ugh’ have line quality resembling the 2004-produced season 4 episodes, being of slightly higher quality than for most of seasons 2-3, though still not as high-quality as core season 4.
