Visual Artifacts Found in SpongeBob

The colors don't look too dull to me, they look pretty typical for Season 10
Look at how pale Eugene is:

For some reason the colors have a pink-ish tint during a few scenes in the Season 1 episode Mermaidman and Barncleboy:

For a few seconds, the film reel develops a pink-ish tint:

Now Spongebob is back to normal:

I think someone must've screwed something up in the darkroom

Oh, now I see it, yuck! Mr. Krabs looks pretty pale compared to the other HD episodes.
For MM&BB, I think the pink tint was caused by someone accidentally pouring some type of pink liquid onto the film reel or cel during production.

I find it hilarious how people here actually think TV networks broadcast shows using VHS tapes that are used in home video when it actually doesn't work that way. The VHS effect would look 10x worse if it was broadcast that way. More grainy, warped picture, noise, heavy rainbow effects, differing effects every time it airs, a noticeable play button every time it starts playing, infact I think that's considered piracy.

I've already mentioned here that not even Season 6 is safe from the VHS effect. Every episode on the Viking Sized Adventures DVD has palebob. The same transfers of the episodes on the DVD (Dear Vikings/Ditchin', Grandpappy the Pirate/Cephalopod Lodge, Shuffleboarding/Professor Squidward, and Pineapple Fever/Chum Caverns) would be used in the Season 6 Volume 2 and Complete 6th Season DVDs and the screenshots of the episodes with the palebob from those DVDs can be seen in the pictures section of this website

Anyone notice how there's palebob in every even numbered season? Season 2, Season 4, Season 6, and Season 8

Examples of palebob in Season 8:

A Friendly Game:

Are You Happy Now:

Karen 2.0:

Face Freeze:

Hello Bikini Bottom:

Season 8's animation is pretty bland in general. It's also the only SDTV season, besides season 5, where every episode looks the same.

The 'SpongeBob on Tour' DVD includes some Season 8 episodes, and they have PaleBob on there. There are screenshots on this thread.

oh I remember seeing that. It's comparable to the Season 2 DVD boxset

there were some later Season 5 episodes that look different from early Season 5

True, but when compared to something like season 2, every episode looks the same. Season 2 has like 8 art styles!
Your Shoes Untied had normal colored SpongeBob in the beginning of the episode, but at the end of the episode he's a nasty shade of yellow. Honey mustard yellow, like he is in Frankendoodle, Band Geeks, and Sailor Mouth. Then at the end of the episode during the loop de loop, he's pale:

Normal Yellow:

Goldenbob:

He's pale for a few seconds:

Then he's back to gold:

Then during the loop de loop, he's pale again!

I'll let this episode slide, this was the first episode to use digital ink and paint. The staff was not used to coloring episodes electronically, they probably forgot to save the software package that was used to color Spongebob, so they improvised with multiple shades of yellow.

is it just me or do the episodes "Bubble Troubles/The Way of the Sponge" look a bit oversaturated today?

I wouldn't know, I haven't had cable since February 2015.

Anyone notice the colors getting darker for a couple scenes in Big Pink Loser:

Here's what a majority of the episode looks like, Spongebob is pale yellow, with bright and dull colors:

Then the colors are normal for a few seconds:

The everything is back to being bright and pasty:

All the sudden the colors look dark and gritty:

Then everything is nice and bright again:

Here's something odd about Jellyfish Hunter

Most of the episode looks like your typical thinned linned style episode of Season 2 & 3:

But when Spongebob is eating a Krabby Patty with blue jelly, it looks like a season 4 episode!

Nick@Nite is airing the SpongeBob episodes "Penny Foolish/Nautical Novice" cropped to HD widescreen as I type this.

Are you watching the HD channel, or the SD channel. SD Nickelodeon usually crops SD shows, but switching to the HD channel makes it 4:3 (as it was origianlly).

It was even on the SD channel it was pillarboxed and cropped
anyone have the region 1 DVD releases of all of the following DVDs?:
Nautical Nonsense and Sponge Buddies
Halloween
Sea Stories
Tales from the Deep
Lost at Sea
Tide and Seek
Christmas
The Seascape Capers
SpongeBob Goes Prehistoric
SpongeGuard on Duty
Sponge For Hire
Home Sweet Pineapple
Fear of a Krabby Patty

because I want to have screenshots of every episode on the DVD and what they look like on the DVDs
basically every pre-movie episode with the exceptions of Help Wanted, Reef Blower, and Rock Bottom are on those DVDs (plus Fear of a Krabby Patty and Shell of a Man) and I want to compare them to the Complete First, Second, and Third Season DVD Boxset transfers.

Anyone else seen Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy III without dot crawl and CRT artifacts?

I honestly think that the Season 1 DVD's transfers have to be the worst season boxset transfers because I find the paleness on every episode in Season 2's boxset to be nowhere near as distracting as dot crawl and CRT rainbow artifacts (only Christmas Who?, Dumped, and Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy III have CRT artifacts (the first 2 don't have them for the entire episode) on the Season 2 DVD compared to Jellyfishing, Plankton!, Naughty Nautical Neighbors, Boating School, Pizza Delivery, Home Sweet Pineapple, Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy, Pickles, Nature Pants, Opposite Day, Squidward the Unfriendly Ghost, The Chaperone, Employee of the Month, Scaredy Pants, I Was a Teenage Gary, Sleepy Time, Suds, Arrgh!, Rock Bottom, Hooky, and Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy II having CRT artifacts on the Season 1 DVD)

I just discovered that the US releases of older SpongeBob episodes have thin black bars added on the sides and non-USA transfers have those bars removed, revealing more of the screen.
