Popeye's Top 30 Worst SpongeBob Episodes Ever (with some honorable mentions)

Is this turning into a thread about bad Patrick episodes?

GN- OK
SB- Meh
Gullible Pants- Pretty Bad
Proffeser Squidward- Meh
Sponge-Cano- Bad
The Play's The Thing- Awful
A Day Without Tears- Awful
The other ep's are pretty awful as well :).

I've never actually watched "Patrick's Staycation" before. If it's bad enough, it will at least make for an honorable mention and I think I've already explained why I don't hate "I'm with Stupid" or "Rule of Dumb." I think I'll think about "Smoothe Jazz in Bikini Bottom" and rewatch that episode now that I have a better copy of it on my computer.

patrick's staycation is about patrick staying in his house while treating spongebob like his slave.

oh,and he also breaks into squidward's house and acts like it's a hotel.

Patrick's Staycation isn't that bad episode actually.

The only time I've ever really heard much about that episode was in one of Illiniguy34's videos which he said it was one of the dumbest Patrick episodes he had ever seen. There's a lot I don't agree with him on but he seemed really sincere when he said that.

it really is. patrick is very annoying in this episode,he tells spongebob what to do almost the entire episode.

Thank you for agreeing with me on I'm With Stupid, Popeye. It's been so long since someone agreed with me.

No problem. That was never an episode I had a problem with when I first saw it as a kid and seeing it again this year after such a long time of not really watching SpongeBob that much, I still don't see why people have such a problem with it now. I've seen similar things said about "Club SpongeBob" and "Opposite Day" even though it's pretty easy to see why those episodes worked.

Sorry I haven't updated this list in a while. I only got done with finals on Thursday but now that those are over, I have a lot more free time to finish up my list. The episodes here are becoming much more interchangeable in terms of how much I dislike them so here's #15!

I was really hoping I wouldn't have to talk about more Luke Brookshier episodes. I've seen his blog before and he seems like a really talented guy but again, no excuse for garbage like this. Same thing with Mr. Lawrence. Just why?????? It's another crappy episode from the infamous Legends of Bikini Bottom special.

Okay, the episode starts out with SpongeBob getting patty meat from the freezer and walking over to the grill to clean it and annoys Squidward in the process. It turns out that what he was cleaning the grill with his tongue. Okay......out of nowhere gross out humor not to mention this episode is already putting me to sleep. SpongeBob then gets excited and asks everyone at the Krusty Krab if they want the first patty off the freshly cleaned grill. Ummmmm.....personally I wouldn't want to eat anything that SpongeBob cleaned with his tongue. Why is that even in this episode? It's an unnecessary and unfunny joke to begin with.

SpongeBob while going to get another fresh patty from the freezer slips on a bunch of water in another drawn out, unfunny sequence. He ends up back in the kitchen and figures out all that water is coming from the sink. He turns the faucet off and finds that the sink is clogged. Patrick is shoehorned in the episode to make it even LESS funny. After that really really boring and bland scene, SpongeBob finally decides to pull the drain plug and Mr. Krabs somehow overhears what he's about to do and frantically runs over to stop him. What really annoys me about this episode is how often the keep repeating the same thing over and over again and having the same exposition too. We already know that SpongeBob wants to pull the goddamn drain plug. Stop trying to shove it into the audience's face. AAARGH!!!!!!!

Mr. Krabs then begins to tell a story about "The Main Drain" with Patrick interrupting him with music. I think that's the only decent part about this episode that's even remotely funny because the rest of it is just dreadful. This episode takes so long to get the point that I just want to turn it off and stop watching but I have to keep talking about this piece of crap for the sake of my review. On top of that, this feels like a severely underdone version of "Hooky" except without all the fun and charm that episode had. People really love to hate "Face Freeze" but I don't think it's anywhere near as unfunny and boring as this episode so that's why that episode is not on this list nor will it be appearing as an honorable mention.

I'm still really sleepy as I type this review. That's how crappy this episode is. Anyway, we see two kids playing and hopping along to find a large drain plug that they pull and it sucked everything in Bikini Bottom including the two stupid kids in it. This episode becomes really painful when Mr. Krabs starts saying that it caused an Apocalypse in the sea. He's so full of ::dolphin noise:: it hurts and creating a plothole in the episode as we speak. If no one was ever heard from again like Krabs was saying in his stupid story, wouldn't he, Patrick and SpongeBob be dead? This episode is just making my brain hurt and if it at least made some sense, I don't think this episode would be so high on my list (it would be more comparable to "Gullible Pants") but ugh. These stupid plotholes are just pissing me off so much and the episode itself is really boring the hell out of me.

SpongeBob and Patrick try to find The Main Drain but do it as SLOWLY as possible and in the most boring possible way ever. What's the point of this episode if SpongeBob and Patrick barely do anything at all besides walk around and give everyone in the audience the verbal equivalent of an Ambien? They step on Plankton by accident and they tell him that they're trying to find The Main Drain. Plankton basically warns them not to go near the Drain and claims that Krabs was lying about his story. It turns out that The Main Drain is actually real and that it's creating another stupid plothole that makes me want to not go further with this review. Really, this episode just sucks so much.

They continue to walk around Bikini Bottom and Old Man Jenkins overhears the two morons and tells them that The Main Drain exists. Okay, it's another really really boring scene. Not much to talk about except that OMJ admits that he doesn't know where it is. What the ::dolphin noise:: was the point of this scene? This episode is becoming more and more awful every second with its unfunny jokes and sloppy story structure. This is 1000x worse than "Night Light" because at least that episode tried to be funny.

SpongeBob unnecessarily tells Patrick that they need to find The Main Drain. Boring exposition that was not needed because we already know what the plot of this episode is about and how it's been shoved down my throat over and over and over again. Patrick says a bunch of unfunny crap and the duo start walking though Patrick decides to act like a jerk for no reason for a few seconds. SpongeBob solves the problem by creating a bus with bubbles. I wish tough situations in real life were that easy to solve. Sigh.

It doesn't quite work out so Spongebob just makes a bunch of bubble balloons and tires them onto Patrick's rock and they fly off. The bubbles pop and they fall on top of Squidward. I just want this stupid episode to end already so I can get some lunch. 3 more minutes of this to go

Patrick hatches an idea and pulls his rock home towards The Main Drain and still does nothing funny to stop my brain cells from rotting. This episode is even less funny than "Someone's In the Kitchen with Sandy" and has all the pacing problems that a bad Hanna-Barbera cartoon would have. More uninspired, insipid Saturday Morning cartoon crap disguised as a SpongeBob cartoon. The rest of the episode is just SpongeBob and Patrick goofing around and taking FOREVER to decide whether they should see if The Main Drain is real or not. Mr. Krabs and Plankton run over to tell SpongeBob and Patrick that they were the idiots who pulled the drain plug and basically repeat that scene from earlier and.......I think I'm almost about done talking about this. It speaks for itself how bad and awfully boring it is.

Then we have more plotholes that make no sense and Braindead Patrick decides to pull the drain plug anyway and you know what the ending to this episode was? They end this episode on one of the most overused cliches in cartoons ever and probably in other mediums too! It turns out that all of this was just one of Patrick's dreams. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM SO MAD. Why didn't they just tell us from the beginning that this was just Patrick dreaming about something or maybe SpongeBob telling him a fairy tale. So pointless and stupid that I don't know what else to say. I genuinely hate this episode so much and never want to see it again.

Never really hated the Main Drain but I was never that fond of it

Oh no!!!!!!! Just no. Aaron and Richard, WHY????????? This episode is a first for my list. It's a combination of being incredibly unfunny, extremely and painfully boring, repulsive character designs and drawings, uninspired plot and it's chock full of stupid redneck stereotypes, even though that didn't really make me as mad as everything else in since a lot of other cartoons have had Southern stereotypes (like Foghorn Leghorn) but managed to make it hilarious and funny. I didn't laugh once watching this episode at all. Even "The Main Drain" had at least one reasonably funny moment in it. This really has nothing good going for it out of everything I've reviewed here so far. It's no surprise this steaming pile of dreck came from gulp.....that dreaded Legends of Bikini Bottom special. I think the stuff I've covered here from that special is 1000x worse than Atlantis Squarepantis to be honest. At least that episode had a couple of things I liked from a technical standpoint. The songs could have used a lot more work but at least it tries to be entertaining and didn't put me to sleep like this ep did and since I never really watched that episode when it was first coming out, I can be a lot easier on that one because I never had to fall for Nick's overhyped advertising.

The episode starts out with SpongeBob and Patrick jellyfishing and doing it in a really really boring way with plenty of lame exposition to boot. They run after the jellyfish and there's still NOTHING funny and then they do a stupid slow motion effect and the two idiots jump up high to try to capture the jellyfish. So pointless it hurts. Their heads collide and it just makes me wonder if this episode is going to have anything of substance that's actually clever. Most likely not. Patrick and SpongeBob check to see if they've broken any bones and Patrick says he broke his abacus. Okay???? I guess that's the closest thing we're ever going to see in terms of anything clever.

They try to run after the jellyfish again and fall into a deep trench where they fall into a hillbilly's outhouse. The design of this guy is already really really ugly and unpleasant to look at. Take a look.

And....

(What happened to the idea of appealing to look at character designs in this show? I'm just glad that there isn't as much unpleasant drawings in the episodes after Season 7 but still. I have no problem with using hick stereotypes in cartoons if you can make them funny. They even did it back in "Plankton's Army" and that episode was really good but the main difference is that they were actually interesting characters and they really knew how to vary the character designs of Plankton's relatives in that ep. Make me think they should have just made the hicks Plankton's relatives instead and made this a sequel to that episode. Golden opportunity lost)

(now THIS is more like it!)

With that out of the way, the hillbillies take the two to Ma Angler who probably has the most hideous character design out of all these characters. I'll let this framegrab do the rest of the talking.

(Ugly and hideous as this episode. May I need to say more?)

This episode continues to be as boring as possible, even repeating certain scenes that already happened in the episode. This was also a major problem with "Penny Foolish" which I covered earlier. It does everything possible to make the audience fall asleep. Every scene from here on takes forever just to move from Point A to Point B and that's one of the major reasons why I hate this episode so much.

SpongeBob and Patrick are challenged by Ma Angler to a series of trials to prove themselves worthy of living. The first challenge is a really unfunny fiddling contest where one of the worst SpongeBob gags ever happens right after we're treated to a minute or two of super boring filler. I'm not joking but that big angler fish playing the fiddle explodes and a bunch of stars fall. I'm serious. Watch it for yourself. It's that lame and stupid and this is my reaction to it.

Check out that big grin that Patrick has in that scene with that giant one tooth. It's 1980s Saturday Morning cartoon level unfunny for me.

The next trial is an even more unfunny hollering contest and Patrick and SpongeBob decide to drink canned corn and burp as loud as they can. Really childish humor there, guys. Really childish. The third trial is a wrestling contest and SpongeBob and Patrick cowardly don't accept the challenge and decide to go jellyfishing instead. Lame. Cliched. Lame. Lame.

They repeat the exact unfunny joke from earlier where the two collide with each other in slow motion. SpongeBob and Patrick are then dubbed honorary Trench Billies and fake teeth. The two try to leave the trench but they are stopped by the hillbillies. They are forced to take care of Ma Angler for the rest of their lives. Patrick tricks one of the hillbillies into thinking his shoes are untied and they manage to escape to the Krusty Krab. There's really not much that happens after that. It's just as stupid and boring as the other parts of the episode I talked about. The Trench Billies catch up to the two buffoons, ransack the restaurant and threaten everyone and then Mr. Krabs calms everyone down by taking their orders of Krabby Patties and lemon lime soda.

Mr. Krabs stares at Ma Angler and says that she would make a good customer of the week and they then get married. So much for "Krusty Love."

I can see why this episode has so much hate. The designs are really ugly, none of the jokes are funny, and the pacing is as slow as can possibly be! It's just not a good episode to watch.
