No. Too many people still had SDTVs at the time.
@Original Raw and Uncut, but to fill in the space, the SD feed would use a downscaled version of the HD feed.

How 16:9 shows would look like on the HD feed with the HD logo before the HD part got removed.

How they would look like on the SD feed May 17, 2013 onwards:

Do you agree with this, or how would you want them to air like on the SD feed after May 17, 2013?

Why are they still 1080i?

My guess is because cable is on it's last legs since a lot of streaming exclusives are already in 4K.

Certain things take a while to catch on. HD has been around since the late 90s, but didn't become standard for new shows until 2009. Most people still watched shows in standard definition until 2012-2013. Netflix started streaming as early as 2007, but streaming didn't take over until 2015.

I think that's definitely what it would look like
@Mr. What Zit Tooya, I think SpongeBob SquarePants should have switched to being produced in Widescreen when Season 4 began production, or maybe in 2005, 2006, 2007, or 2008. That way, it would be ready for when Widescreen becomes standard in 2009.
