Thanks to Mr. Krabs being incredibly OOC and unrealistic.
No one hates the suicide joke because its "too dark". People ahte this episode because the thought of Krabs driving Plankton to suicide for no reason is frustrating.

Well, as seeing many past comments, it seems to me some have a problem with suicide in a kids show.

Honestly I do have a problem sith suicide references in ANY kids show cuz It's highly depressing and some kids can be effected by this. I believe that most kids can handle some dark stuff (I handled) but suicidal thoughts in kids shows are kinda bothersome, kids will not like to a character trying to kill himseld and I don't think parents would apporove that in kids shows. However, like many people said, Krabs characterization here is the problem of the ep, not suicide. I can still like an episode, even If there's one suicide reference like Are You Happy Now.BTW I don't think this episode should be banned cuz a lot kids show got away with suicide references.

At first, I didn't really mind this episode all that much. But after thinking about it, this episode is terrible. This episode has no jokes at all, has Plankton wanting to commit suicide, and Mr. Krabs is terrible here. 0/10

I
LIKE
THIS
EPISODE

I'm a fan of it's dark humor, hell, LOTS OF PEOPLE have made jokes about suicide and they will in the future. GET OVER IT.
It also harkens back to the "Paranoia" theme back in the season 1 and 2 episodes. Also, I love how blunts plankton is with his line about killing himself. It does have it's faults, like that ending witch was a HUGE slap in the face, but that still doesn't stop me from liking this episode.

I appreciate your honesty and willingness to come out in the open. I have not seen this episode in many months but it's good that other viewpoints can be shared like this.

HANDS DOWN! THIS IS THE WORST SEASON 7 EPISODE EVER. I thought this episode was much worse than A Pal For Gary. Not just the worst season 7 episode, It's also one of my least favorite SpongeBob episodes. Definetly on my bottom 10.. I don't understand why this episode got many good reviews on tv.com. The only good part was the begining because that part was very enjoyable but I'm gonna rate this episode 0/10 because this episode get worse after Mr. Krabs finds out that Plankton is afraid of whales and dressed up like Pearl to scare Plankton. I really hated Mr. Krabs in this episode. Mr. Krabs was okay in season 7 but he was unlikeable in this episode and I really wanted to punch Mr. Krabs. Also SpongeBob says that Mr. Krabs's afraid of mimes to Plankton but at the end, he later uses a projector to scare Plankton. Are you serious SpongeBob? SpongeBob was unlikeable in this episode. Pearl was okay in this episode. Also the worst part was Plankton's suicide attempt. That part is even worse than the suicide jokes in "Are You Happy Now?" because at least Squidward didn't commit suicide. The writers of this episode forgot that kids watch SpongeBob too. I still don't understand why many members of tv.com liked this episode. This episode is just one of the most overrated post-movie episodes. I will never watch this episode again. I really felt bad for Plankton in this episode. This episode makes you want to watch Best Frenemies, Friend or Foe and The Other Patty again. At least these episodes are great and worth watching again. I don't recommend this episode, especially to post-movie haters and Plankton fans. 0/10

By the way, this is my reaction to the writers of this episode (2:28):

THAT'S JUST A DUMB, HARSH AND MEAN REVIEW!!!

I've seen worse.

Don't get me wrong, I still think it's the worst SpongeBob episode ever but I have no anger to this episode anymore or writers for making this episode (I'm respectful to them and they made some gems), even though the suicide attempt and Mr. Krsbs are still bothersome. Plus the hatrid of all bad SpongeBob episodes has gotten old (thank goodness the hatrid of post-movie stopped a little these days).

I still don't like the idea of suicide jokes being made in SpongeBob, and I don't think the episode is all that great or funny, but I'm done raging at this episode and calling it the worst thing ever.

After my bottom 50 was done, I re watched this episode.

I should have put it MUCH higher than 23, like that missing #4.

YEAH, THAT'S IT, OCM IS MY FOURTH LEAST FAVORITE EPISODE.

I say this because I just cried after the episode ended.
THE PLANKTON ABUSE. THAT'S WHAT KILLS ANY AND ALL LIKENESS OF THIS EPISODE.
He's the most adorable thing on Earth, and they try to scare him out of his mind. NO.
My main problem is when HE COMMITS SUICIDE.
I would just strangle myself if he actually died.
I would throw my TV screen out the window along with myself.
It was even designed to be FUNNY.
WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? AND ON A KIDS SHOW NO LESS?
I just can't do this.
I hate this episode.
It doesn't even exist.
No way.
Well, there was a creepypasta where in the end of this episode, Plankton get;s hit by the bus and ends up in hell, and the author questions Zeus Cervas, Casey Alexander and Doug Lawrence

Actually after re-watching this episode a couple more times I don't think it's the horrific episode I once thought it was. Oh don't get me wrong it's still terrible, but after watching it those two times it made me realize that the episode actually starts off pretty good. I don't know how popular of an opinion that is, but I really don't think the first two minutes of the episode are bad at all. There were a couple funny jokes around that point like with Mr. Krabs using SpongeBob as a peashooter and Plankton walking out of the freezer. I'd like to think that Mr. Lawrence wrote this part of the episode as I genuinely think he's one of the better writers on the show these days even though he's wrote quite a few duds on the show. However the exact moment that this episode goes downhill is when Pearl says "I prefer a salad over Plankton anyway." and then this episode starts to get terrible with the unfunny mall money joke and SpongeBob revealing that Mr. Krabs pays him with counterfeit money. The episode really starts to derail when Mr. Krabs starts to torment Plankton by dressing up as Pearl and I'll try not to be too redundant by addressing Krabs driving Plankton to suicide, but what really angers me about this is how seriously they portray Plankton's misery. Like this one scene where Plankton has long grey hair and long fingernails and it's just so disturbing and I really felt bad for Plankton during that scene. I also hate how Karen doesn't even try to comfort him and doesn't even care about what he's going through. Mr Krabs drives Plankton to suicide... shows no remorse... yadda yadda yadda, let's just get to the ending. Now when I first saw this episode I thought it was entertaining to see Mr. Krabs get his comeuppance at the end or so I thought. SpongeBob betrays Plankton by using a projector to make it look like whales were outside the Krusty Krab which scares Plankton off. As much as the ending is a slap in the face, what really pisses me off about it is what Mr Krabs says which was "Well, you redeemed yourself boy." NO HE ::dolphin noise::ING DIDN'T. HE BETRAYED PLANKTON JUST SO HE CAN MAKE UP FOR REVEALING THE SECRET LOCATION OF THE FORMULA! HE DID IT JUST SO HE CAN GET BACK ON MR. KRAB'S GOOD SIDE WHICH IS STUPID BECAUSE HE DOESN'T DESERVE TO BE HIS BUTT-MONKEY!

Now I don't think this is one of the worst episodes of the show like most people seem to think as it did start off good, but after that it just got worse and worse. While it is a terrible episode, I still think episodes like Stuck in the Wringer and A Pal For Gary are many times worse than this one. 2/10

I don't know if I already said, but. I like this episode. Yes, it's really funny, it can make we laught a lot.
Even with that suicide joke, there were other suicides jokes in SpongeBob and others cartoons...
The suicide joke isn't THAT funny, but the rest of the episode is.

I will never shut up about this. You guys taking this literally, saying the writers are sick and suicide played for drama to continue the story can't be in a kids show. It's sad to see. SAD.
I still hate the episode, but I would never send death threats to the writers about it. I think Mr. Krabs and the ending bothered me a lot more than the suicide attempt.

2.5/10

Hard to believe that back on my TV.com days, I used to yell at writers and curse the heck out of this episode. What the heck was I thinking? But then again, that was back in the days when I used to follow the most popular opinion. I had never even heard of Mr. Enter back then.

Don't take this review seriosly. It's pretty much just things that have already been pointed out millions of times. The "few points that seem to be missed" are actually just really nit picky or things I thought had been pointed or actually were quite a few times.
Oh, this episode

The beginning is actually pretty solid. In fact, it wouldn't be out of place for Pre Movie. It's nice to see Plankton being more competent than usual. The gag about the wacky bucks is kind of funny. Pearl comes in, Plankton gets scared and runs back to the Chum Bucket. Mr Krabs requests Pearl to scare Plankton some more. Pearl demands money and of course Krabs refuses, so he decides to disguise as Pearl to torment Plankton personally. The episode really goes downhill from here.

The next couple minutes, we see Plankton terrified by [Pearl]

16 Paranoia Filled Days Later
Still, Plankton is scared out of his mind

The nightmare sequence was admittedly pretty cool, but man, is it played straight.
Plankton is startled awake and decides that he can't take it anymore. [Pearl] reveals himself to be Mr Krabs while gleefully laughing at Plankton's pain

Oh boy, this scene that people think of when thinking of this episode. The suicide "joke". Plankton lies down on the road, and waits for a bus to run him over. The episode isn't even trying to hide that it's a suicide attempt. Again, it's played very straight. What is even the "joke" that everyone brings up? At least in Are You Happy Now there were actual suicide JOKES. Anyway SpongeBob sees Plankton. He tells SpongeBob to step on him. Yes Plankton wants to be stepped on as hard as possible. If that's not a death wish, then it's just him wanting to be in pain. Taken out of context, that could be funny because of the way he says it. Btw did you get the possible reference to Whatever Happened To SpongeBob (WhoBob WhatPants)
Cheesehead

Anyway it cuts to Krabs erasing a picture of Plankton saying "Goodbye pipsqueak". SpongBob comes in and tells Krabs that Plankton is lying on the road "for loin". Krabs responds with "Really? He's a mess!"

Upon hearing this news, Mr Krabs grabs a chair, some popcorn, goes outside and watches Plankton get run over while laughing maniacally. Okay, that never happened. I guess Krabs isn't as evil in this episode as people make him out to be. Maybe he just wants Plankton out of (his) life, except the nightmare scene contradicts that. What really happens is SpongeBob calls Krabs out. Not for driving Plankton to attempt suicide but for "putting on a dress to frighten him". I guess they couldn't use the word suicide, but still.

SpongeBob goes out and tells Plankton Krabs' "secret fear", which turns out to be... mimes. Okay even if Krabs was afraid of mimes, it's an IRrational fear, so it wouldn't quite justify Plankton's torment. Anyway Plankton decides to exploit that fear. Krabs acts scared (pretty fake sounding btw). SpongeBob shows Plankton a hungry pod of whales. Plankton escapes through the floor and SpongeBob turns off the projection of whales (so maybe SpongeBob devised the whole plan). Krabs is happy, the mime is performing and "Okay you really are creeping me out now" implies that Krabs' fear was fake. Well at least Plankton won't be tormented anymore... I think.
tl;dr Okay I can't say much about the episode that hasn't been said a hundred times, but I hope I've made a few points that seem to be missed. Unlike the other most hated episodes of the series, this actually has a good (very good) scene at the beginning. I also give the episode credit for succeeding in what it wanted to do (if it's trying to do what I think it is). Making the audience depressed (no not making the audience cry like Have You Seen This Snail) and hate Mr Krabs (in a bad way). The problem is that it doesn't really belong in a (kids) comedy, let alone a SpongeBob episode. I could forgive the nightmare and suicide scenes if they weren't played so straight, but there aren't really any jokes, so it's nearly impossible not to take it seriously. Also Krabs is portrayed as being in the right (even though SpongeBob calls him out). Maybe the writers thought that increasing Plankton's competence at the beginning would justify Krabs' actions. The thing is what Plankton did did minimal damage to the Krusty Krab and it was over the top. Krabs was simply...evil

2.5/10 (2 for the beginning, .5 for SpongeBob being remotely likable)

Season: 7

Episode: One Coarse Meal

This episode was terrible. The plot was really bad. Mr Krabs was so cruel and mean spirited to let Plankton almost commit suicide. I felt bad for the "actual villain." The beginning was the only good part, and Spongebob was the only likeable character with the redeeming qualities. There were 1 or 2 funny jokes. 2.5/10
