I happen to agree with you there. I hate seein' SpongeBob hurt.

Tbh I think Squidward getting hurt is funny (he kinda deserves it for yelling at his neighbors), I just don't like when the main characters get tortured
 
But it's Spongebob and Patrick who annoys Squidward after repeating to stop or leave him alone. It's almost stalking at that point.

They are just having fun tho. They don't mean any harm to Squidward.

That's true but a lot of the times it's pretty obvious they're hurting Squidward and they're oblivious to it (sorry for butting into this convo)
 
I wanna change my opinions after watching some more episodes:
  • Unpopular episodes I like: Are You Happy Now?, Dumped, I'm With Stupid, Banned in Bikini Bottom, Grandma's Kisses, Spongehenge, (and I'm pretty neutral on A Day Without Tears)
  • Band Geeks is not the best episode IMO, it's a B+ in my rating system
  • I actually loved the third SpongeBob movie
  • Good Neighbors is bad, but it's not the worst
  • I like It's a SpongeBob Christmas! more than Christmas Who?

A lot of people prefer SpongeBob and Patrick being hurt because of how much they torture squidward. It makes them unlikable to people over time.
 
I'm personally fine with the characters getting hurt either way as long as it's in a way that matches the show's usual tone.

It is an episodic comedy, after all. None of the injuries last.

The issue is when it’s unearned. Squidward wants to be left alone and reasonably yells when annoyed like anyone would. Gets hurt.

Mr Krabs sells SpongeBobs soul for 62 cents.

No punishment.

Patrick tortures squidward for ink. No punishment.

Squilliam almost never gets come up ins.

SpongeBob isn’t malicious but he deserves to be hurt more than squidward. He hurts squidward.

Misses puff is under stated in this hit she also suffers when she DOES NOTHING TO DESERVE IT!

And we can't forget Sandy almost KILLING SpongeBob and Patrick (SHE FREAKIN' EXPLODED PATRICK) with no punishments.

I’m more mad at her for sportz when she beat up squidward who just wanted some justified payback after all the years of ::dolphin noise:: they gave him. Ffs they have an annoy squidward day and won’t leave when he tells them too. Hes 200% justified in sportz and anyone saying he isn’t is bull face lying in saying they wouldn’t hate SpongeBob if they were squidward. If anything squidward treats SpongeBob better then anyone all things considered. Even Flanders gets mad at Homer for far less.

Squidward deserved it, he was mercilessly torturing his friends. Sandy had to step in to put a stop to it.
