Storyboards, backgrounds, sketches & other miscellaneous artwork

Seeing the grass near the bottom, I'd agree it's Sandy's treedome. The walls/glass looks curved in like a dome shape.

I feel stupid because I was just going to say that it looks like the room is underwater but not in water, but it never occurred to me that it could be the treedome. Now you've said it, I don't see what else it could be.

The art style here is so different to anything we've seen before that were it not for the burgers I'd have a hard time believing it had anything to do with this movie at all. But I really hope it does, because it looks great.
Further evidence, one of the tags is "Sandy Cheeks". None of the other characters except for SpongeBob are tagged.

Found what is apparently a background painting on Tumblr, though I don't know the source of the person who posted it so I can't personally vouch for its authenticity. Having said that, I see no reason to believe that it's "fake", because if it is then somebody went to a lot of trouble. And how many other movies would have a background featuring diagrams of burgers?

Link.

Goddangit this looks super spoiler-ey

I mean (unless they ripped a page out of a book or something...) what else would say "The End" like that?
And the different art style.
And I'm getting a very "satisfying ending" feel by looking at this.

I really think this was meant to be a still, and not just a BG.

Also, look closer. It looks like none of the objects in the background are going to move anytime soon, since they're all painted in with the BG. Heck, look at the candle even. If they were going to animate the candle flame (and an unanimated flame in the BG would look crappy), wouldn't it just be the wick/wax in the BG and animate the flame separately?

Plus, it shows a bunch of notes. It almost seems like the view is looking over all the [gang's/Sandy's] plans, possibly plans they followed/will follow during the movie.

I dunno if it means much else or not, but notice how the "The End" appears as if it's written over pre-existing text. Hmmm....

Well, if someone does find a drastic spoiler of the movie, it'd help to put it in a spoiler :P

Anyways, that "The End" paper and the background looks really cool.

That really looks great!, but is weird that is an different drawing style

I really hope there's more info about this background because there is only one other legible word, the word "no" on the drawing on the desk

Ps: is it just my device or am I unable to post pictures in this topic?

That's amazing! What were you doing to find it? I guess you can't do anything to compare this to any other background art from the show.

Man, that background looks beautiful, can't wait to see the art in this movie.

I'm gonna go ahead an try and guess from the pic maybe what the film might be about. There tons of diagrams so Maybe spongebob is trying to make the perfect krabby patty? Or maybe he and Patrick have to like go around the sea and find ingredients for the a new krabby patty or something?

Marco Cinello, who was Workbook/Layout Supervisor on the first movie, has the same position on this new movie 10 years later. (Source.)

Here are a few pictures he has posted:

This first one has something to do with a camera. The top paper is titled "CAMERA", the rectangles in the foreground are viewfinders and in the top center you can see what looks like a little camera with a parachute.

Doesn't it makes you all warm and fuzzy to know that someone in Animation is still doing this? Take that Lasseter!
This one is apparently layouts but it's too small for me to make much out.

I went through the original movie thread and fished out the behind-the-scenes artwork to make it easier to browse.

Future storyboards, layouts, character designs etc should be posted in this thread.

Looking on the side of that long paper it looks like the entire Bikini Bottom possibly?

The picture in the top center looks like a storyboard/background actually. The camera with the parachute looks like one of [spoiler3]Plankton's inventions.[/spoiler3]

At least it confirms Plankton is in the movie :P

Wonder if he is actually the main villain in this one
I want Plankton to be evil again. Now, he's just a joke.

Maybe Sandy got back to living on land and is still studying Krabby Patties. Maybe that's why it looks so realistic....and beautiful.

The 2d design looks pretty nice. It sort of looks like season 3 or 4, from what I can see in that drawing.

Found some superhero concept art on a PDF that was available on Nick.co.uk. It's not the greatest quality unfortunately but it's still interesting.
