SBM is trash!

At least he has other emotions. Remember when he strangled Krabs in Can a You Spare a Dime? And there's times when he's annoyed at the situation. Characters like these may have that emotion, but only for a split second.

I hate Wander lolz
But Mabel has other emotions and you still hate Mabel which I'm starting to sort of understand if those characters aren't your thing but just saying.

I also think that there's always a chance that they're just using that character archetype as a starting point and that as the show progresses that her character is going to evolve and become a lot more nuanced. We don't know for sure yet.

So I've finished watching the episode they showed at 9:00 and wanted to get my thoughts down as soon as possible. I was worried that after all the hype I'd be disappointed but I looooved it <3 Marco is adorkable, Star is fab, and the show looks so cool. I definitely want to see more episodes now :D

(and the Star avatar is probs staying for a good while :P)

Alright, here's my take.

Da Good - Let's start with the pros. The animation was fantastic. The movements and expressions had good chemistry, each complementing each other. The artstyle itself wasn't bad either. It uses the typical 2010 CalArts style, but it adds a nice twist to not look totally unoriginal.

Da Bad - Unfortunately, the writing is where the two episodes failed. They were so cliche and by-the-books. Nothing stood out whatsoever. The episode with the pony, for instance. The humor itself is pretty hit-or-miss, leaning too much towards miss. Some were especially cringeworthy. And while Star and Marco's relationship is endearing, I could get the exact same reaction from Gravity Falls, a much more consistent series. I'd put SvTFOE above GF animation-wise, but below GF in writing and character dynamics.

Da Meh - The characters, I've seen them before. Blah blah blah, dorky teenage boy, blah blah blah, sassy annoying side-character voiced by black woman, blah blah blah, incompetent big bad. The only character I hated was the pony, but everyone else was simply...meh. Although Star isn't as annoying as she could have been. She's surprisingly levelheaded for someone as wacky as her. But I'd need to know them more to care about them.

Verdict: There's some good aspects here, but the overall experience, I did not enjoy. It needs polishing in order to truly be good. Until that point, despite the great animation, it's flawed at best and generic at worst. 5/10

I've finally seen the show for myself and here's what I think basically:

The animation is quite nice and interesting to look at. It holds my attention even when some of the jokes and stuff don't exactly work. I'd say I preferred the second episode over the first episode because there was more humor there that I actually liked and much more potential for the show to branch out and do a lot of cool stuff with the premise it has. It's gonna take me a while to get used to the characters since I kinda get the feeling that there's still a lot of character development needed and I honestly didn't feel too attached to any of the characters, at least for now.

So in a nutshell, it's a finely drawn cartoon but still needs a lot of work in the character and comedy department and I also kept thinking of Dave the Barbarian a little bit here and there, especially with the tiny sized villain cliche that's there unfortunately. I'd give it between a 6-6.5/10 so far.

I think it definitely has some potential. I got attached to Star and Marco quickly but that's how I am, haha. And I love the animation and color scheme! I think I'll give it a 7.5/10 based on this first pair of episodes.

It's rare that I get hooked on something this quickly. Even with MLP, it took me a few episodes to really get into the show. I guess I've been charmed! :P

P.S.: I flippin' love Princess Ponyhead.
P.P.S.: I'm sorry for all the excitement, but this show inspires so many feelings that I can't help fangirling

I don't the theme song. Main character looks annoying.

But, that's all I can judge. I need to actually watch the show before judging :P

WHAT ABOUT HAPPY????????????
I love Happy. <3 Something about him amuses me.

I'm personally a fan of the series. Sure, the writing beat-for-beat may be less than stellar, but it's still a pretty decent show nonetheless. The characters are quirky and the animation is just mesmorizing. Overall, nowhere near as great as Gravity Falls, but at least it's better than Kirby Buckets...*shudder.*

(I also run a fan-blog centered around the series, if anyone's curious)

What's your blog called? I'll check it out :D

I actually kinda like that it's not on GF's level. Sometimes you need something fun and quirky on TV, I think.

You run a fan blog on a series that premiered a week ago?
