Yeah remember it now, it kind of does...

I'm not sure what your definition of dated is. Isn't the season 2-3 animation technically dated too since it looks older?

A screenshot from Sanitation Insanity where SpongeBob has his season 6 design.

Yeah, there still is some of that odd season 10-12 quality to the image. I wish they would draw him like that more often than the bizarre wacky faces though. Why does he have to look this scary all of a sudden?

I don't know, maybe because they think that funny faces would be funny to their audience? But don't take it seriously...

It's more than just the faces being wacky, he looks downright unsettling at times. SpongeBob is supposed to be a cute character.

It's like if John.K decided to work on these episodes (and I'm saying that because sometimes the show just looks like Ren and Stimpy)

Patrick's head is super pointy in markerbob. Like usual markerbob has an addiction to colored lines, if this episode had normal animation, Spongebob and Patrick's camping gear would've had black lines.

Late season 3 episodes with normal animation also have a lot of instances where Spongebob has his inward cheeks, just not as often as he does in markerbob.

On Family Guy, Peter has his season 7 design while he's standing in front of the tv watching cheers in the Season 5 episode "Road to Rupert". They were probably experimenting with vector animation during this scene.

I found a few seconds of normal animation in Can You Spare a Dime. The blanket is the only way you can tell it's markerbob.
