Sometimes his falsetto slips and in early Season 4 this resulted in SpongeBob sounding rather pre-movie. But after a while this since Tom Kenny got older so he couldn't really do a pre-movie-like voice anymore. In Sponge Out of Water he made the voice deeper but did not remove the falsetto so it just sounded like a deeper post-movie voice rather than his pre-movie voice.

There ARE times in the movie where he doesn't have a falsetto, like "now we work together!" but it still doesn't sound pre-movie since Tom Kenny got older AND he also does the voice more goofily now too. SpongeBob now sounds like he's trying not to laugh. He sounded more natural in the pre-movie era.

Yeah. It's sounded scratchy since at least Shell Shocked. When SpongeBob says "Oh, who am I kidding!? It looks TERRIBLE on you!" he sounds post-sequel.

I think his voice already started to sound slightly older by late Season 4. When you made that Gift of Gum pre-movie-sounding voice video I noticed his voice couldn't be confused for his Battle For Bikini Bottom voice anymore when his falsetto slipped the way it could in The Lost Mattress or Fear of a Krabby Patty.

Best way I can explain it; think of how an 8th Grade boy sounds, the voice you have when your voice first breaks is like your adult voice, but with falsetto added to it.

Season 2 or 3 is probably the definitive SpongeBob voice. It's the voice you think of when you see SpongeBob memes. But I also really like his Season 1 voice. His Season 4-5 voice is okay. His voice starts to get annoying in Season 6, especially in episodes where SpongeBob's more childish, like Boating Buddies. Boating Buddies is probably one of the worst episodes in the entire show when it comes to SpongeBob's voice (or in general lol)

Season 1 Dexter has bright colors, but you could still tell it was cel animation because of the wobbling cels, unsteady camera, the rougher linework, inconsistent character sizes, and the cue dots.
