105a. The Splinter

= my face towards this episode

This isn't even THAT bad, I can think of about 20 worse episodes off the top of my head. Even Season 5 had worse episodes.

I don't know if I already posted in this thread, but I just watched this episode and it is amazing! 9/10, great episode!

I really hate this episode! There are no jokes. The whole episode is painful. 2.5/10

It's not a great episode, but I don't dislike it because of the gross parts (though they don't help). I didn't like it because the "jokes" weren't very funny and it seemed dumbed down. I don't know, it just wasn't interesting or filled with humor. 2/10

To be honest this doesn't bother me that much. Nor does it excite me much.

I honestly like this.... I also like every SpongeBob episode! If I like something then I just like all of it. 9/10

Edit (2023): What a stupid review lmao

I consider this episode to be gross, yet it didn't gross me out (considering how I saw things that are much worse). I can see how people can lose their appetites and become scared when they see the physical pain SpongeBob has to have when the splinter gets jammed in his thumb and him trying to pull it out with those uncomfortable crying, swearing, pain, and face. And Squidward tries to scare him by telling him he'd get sent home, and then Patrick, instead of being funny in Suds, has to make it worse by putting trash all over Spongebob's thumb, infecting it.

And then when Squidward snitches on SpongeBob, Mr. Krabs pulls it out and puss flies all over him, and that is nasty. And Squidward tries to injure himself to get worker's compensation but he fails.

Hey, there's a certain word for this episode! NASTY. Another one? REVOLTING. The dictionary? REPULSIVE AND VILE. See, this is why I don't like Spongebob anymore. Nasty, disturbing, and mostly gross episodes like this make even little kittens barf. So, it starts out where Spongebob gets his spatula stuck on the ceiling (what?) and he gets all these stupid things to stack on top to get to the ceiling so he can get his dumb spatula. While he's on there, he trips and the box of swords and tartar sauce fall, but he doesn't get the splinter, he falls and the wooden floorboards get his thumb. WTF? Well, my word count is high, so DaftPunkLover out!

This episode is one of my Top 5 Least Favourite Episodes. You know why? One word. DISGUSTING! Gross-out humor can be funny sometimes, but this? This just takes it waaaaay too far!

0/10!

I didn't like Squidward scaring SpongeBob. The episode was not that good.

I explicitly remember seeing clips of this episode online. I stopped watching the show around 2007/2008 and I hadn't seen SpongeBob in years, when I saw clips of this episode online I was revolted, it pretty much started my phase of hating post-movie (Which was stupid considering I barely had a problem with seasons 4 and 5 and I didn't even give seasons 6+ a chance) so this episode has some history with me. Looking back I do think people over exaggerate how bad and gross it is. Maybe it's just how I've gotten desensitized but the only thing I found really gross was the puss pouring out of SpongeBob's thumb at the end, the rest is pretty tolerable, I'm not trying to tell you this is a good episode though 'cause it's pretty awful.

I actually like the concept of the episode, admittedly it's much more akin to something like Ren and Stimpy but I feel with proper comedy this could've been a funny, experimental episode, instead this is one of the most boring things in SpongeBob history. The main source of humor is the splinter itself but there in lies the problem. For an episode like this to work the gross-out has to be earned and interesting, the splinter joke is just so repetitive, the ways the splinter gets bigger and grosser aren't creative or experimental leading for some very blah gross-out. It doesn't help that every scene seems to drag on for way too long leading for terrible pacing and comedic timing. All of this would've made this... bearable, but Patrick's appearance washes out any forgiveness I could have for this episode. All of Patrick's methods are boring and unfunny and uggh, Patrick was just such a miserable turd sandwich in this episode. It doesn't help that he doesn't get why form of punishment at the end, I loved his appearance in Suds but this is the exact opposite way to do it.

This episode was boring and irritating, one of the worst combinations a SpongeBob episode could have.

This is the episode that got me starting to dislike the season. I actually remember seeing this back in 2009, and after I watched it for the first time, I nearly threw up. While I don't throw up at the episode now, it's still pretty awful. While the first half of the episode wasn't THAT gross, once Patrick stepped in, it got nasty. Even to this day, all the pus squirting out of SpongeBob's thumb makes me uncomfortable. The concept of the episode could have been a Ren and Stimpy style episode (AKA a gross but funny episode), but instead we got an irritating and dull episode. Even without the splinter in it, this would have been painfully boring. The pacing was poor (it felt really slow), there aren't any funny or interesting jokes, and the whole thing seemed uninspired. I know the writers can do way better than this, since I believe in them. The worst part was Patrick, as he contributed nothing of substance and he acted like an unlikeable imbecile. In other words, Doctor Patrick in this episode was a poor man's version of Doctor Patrick in Suds. The only things I liked about the episode were the ending, and the very beginning. 2/10

Well, it's not the worst episode, but it is pretty disgusting and has very little redeeming qualities.
