welcome, enjoy your stay.jpg
One of my favorite hobbies is searching the internet for interesting/obscure images and videos. I'm always looking for things that give me nostalgia, things that I would have liked as a kid, or even weird things that may leave me confused or intrigued. So I have quite a bit of stuff I can post here!

A lot of these were found on the Internet Archive by the way. There is some weird stuff there sometimes.

Domo-Kun is one of my favorite characters. I was gifted a little stuffed Frankenstein Domo by my great-grandma on Christmas one year, and I fell in love with him. The next year Domo would have a massive collaboration with Target for Halloween, in which many stores would be completely overhauled to be decorated for the collaboration. This just furthered my love for the character, although I really had no idea who the character really was. After doing some research on my Nintendo DSi, I learned that Domo was a mascot for NHK, a Japanese broadcasting corporation. I discovered a website called DomoNation which was an official Domo fan website that hosted Domo-themed games, merchandise, and news, and allowed users to upload their own Domo images. Some users took photos of them with their Domo merchandise, some uploaded photoshopped images of Domo, and some uploaded some really offensive images that somehow stayed at the top of the site for multiple months with no moderation. Others uploaded images like this though, of a kid with a mascot costume of Domo-Kun and his roommate Mr. Usaji.

The reason the image is so small is that while a lot of the website was archived on the Wayback Machine, not every individual webpage was archived, and a lot of the webpages that were archived were unfortunately archived without the images or media that once existed on the page. Despite this, the main web pages that are archived do still have images, although many are smaller thumbnail photos. I haven't done too much digging, but for now many of the original high-quality images from the site are lost media.

Global Village Coffeehouse was the name given to a style that emerged in the late 1980s and stayed relevant until some time in the early 2000s, although some companies still use the aesthetic in their marketing such as Panera Bread. The aesthetic is described as resembling the general atmosphere in many coffeehouses, including the cultural diversity that can often be found in such locations. Global Village is characterized by earth-tone colors, bohemian aesthetics, woodcut styling, and figures like Kokopelli, a Native American deity. Along with Native American cultures, different African cultures are also represented in the artwork. Some common motifs found in Global Village are imagery that can be described as fantastic, people being transported from one place to another, and a focus on nature. As proven by this image though, the aesthetic is vast and can take many different forms and depict many different things.
