People who call out 'fat shaming' animation characters

You Americans just have to make an issue out of everything don't you? Maybe this is the reason why you guys never went with implementing universal healthcare.
It was a woman from New Zealand who had an issue with Maui's body design, but ok

I pretty much agree with what others here have been saying. Maui's design isn't "fat-shaming" and I see no problem with the way he was drawn. Yeah he's fat but he's also a strong and powerful demigod, which is pretty cool. To think that children will get the wrong idea from this is just stupid. Why do parents always have this issue? They should take the time to educate their kids then, like Roadie said. Just let them enjoy the movie, darn it.

People just should stop being over-sensitive. This political correctness is still going too far.

Characters may be fat but to my knowledge it hasn't encouraged anyone to bully fat people, or to feel bad about themselves, or to put on weight. There is a difference between creating characters that people really like and encouraging people to be like that character and same with dislike.

Besides if all characters are drawn thin, the same people would probably be complaining about 'diversity' and not being realistic. I don't think anyone is influenced at all, and I encourage the writers to continue to do what they are currently doing - creating good characters.

What is with people getting so offended these days? I mean, come on! Fat is beautiful in some cultures, and I think that this new character is lovable. Why can't people just embrace the fact that creators can create whatever they want and have the freedom to create both fat and skinny characters? Creators have the right to make ANYTHING THEY WANT, but of course some people have to be such a critic and police them. I mean, come on? I just want kids to be entertained with the new movie coming out, and it looks like a good movie.

Message to those senstive nutjobs that make a messaage out of everything: Grow up. Quit whining. Just enjoy the frickin' movie, and leave it at that.

I just remembered how people got so offended over that time someone drew a Steven Universe character skinny? These people don't know what they want, people just like to complain.

Drawing fat characters in cartoons is only accurate to real life, y'know?
I thouught she never even had a hold.
I have no issue with the design.

How about we just let people draw their characters fat or skinny and have no consequences with doing either?

I'm sick of everybody overthinking this crap. It's NOT fatshaming if you're drawing people skinny, and it is NOT unhealthy to draw them as fat if you want to. If it's unrealistic, make sure people are aware of that. But no, people would rather try to POLICE what major animation companies want to do with their characters. It's just like the Frozen whitewashing issue all over again, except not as stupid since the Frozen's use of white people was completely realistic and appropriate.

The bottom line is simply not to police art or entertainment! People should be allowed to have the freedom to make what they want to make regardless of what other people's preferences are or what other people have to say.
I'm not talking about this situation, I was kinda talking about a whole other can of worms, if you wan't my opinion on this fiasco you're completely right.

Remember the good old days when people just went to watch movies and didn't get upset if there wasn't a social justice/issue subplot involved? Those were good times. Nowadays, everything has to have a "message." It's not enough that kids can play with Barbies, for example. Now, Barbies "have" to be feminist propaganda to make little girls interested in computer science. The entire franchise has been ruined for the sake of a message. Our girls just aren't allowed to like playing with dolls for fun anymore.

Same thing for movies. Everyone's calling for the Frozen sequel to have a same-sex couple. That is not the point of Disney movies. The point of Disney/animated movies is to provide a funny story and entertainment for all. I think there was also an outcry to make Moana plus-sized a while back. Not everything needs a message! Kids don't care!

Katniss made a topic earlier about political correctness and people getting offended by everything. This is a great example. I am equally disappointed in this generation of parents (though certainly not all of them act like this). Guys. It's an animated feature. There is nothing to get upset about. Seriously.

@The Drifter (sorry, it's too late for me to quote you): there really isn't any need for your argument right now. Blaming Americans (or any group) for issues like this is not the way to handle this debate, nor is it the time to attack our political system. That's not even relevant. "We Americans" don't like being stereotyped, thanks. Some of us actually don't get offended.
