Overrated/Underrated Games?

I know. I just like these games so much, and don't find them overrated.

If I call a game overrated, it just means that I didn't like it as much as everyone else did, even if it was still pretty good.

I'll just go through a few of your choices now:

I disagree about Super Mario Galaxy being overrated. And how is Super Mario Sunshine overrated? People hated that game and call it the black sheep of the series, but I honestly believe that it is one of the best of the series.

Yes, Metroid Prime is definitely overrated. :P

Super Mario Bros. Deluxe is also pretty overrated, because it's really just a port/slight remake of Super Mario Bros. and Lost Levels on the GameBoy.

Super Mario RPG is kind of overrated, mostly because I consider Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door to be the best Mario RPG, rather than this game.

Agreed, Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald are definitely underrated!

Mario Party 9 was decent, but I really don't like all the changes they did to the series there, so I don't necessarily think that it's underrated.

However, a Mario Party game that is underrated is MARIO PARTY 8!!! I love that game.

No, I don't just stick to the popular opinion for no reason. Sometimes I agree with the popular opinion, and sometimes I don't. But yeah, I really do love Mario Kart 64 (and its tracks that I didn't find lackluster and boring), but I still believe that Mario Kart Double Dash is the best Mario Kart game. To be honest, I'm pretty sure people call the first Mario Kart game that they played their favorite mostly because of nostalgia, as that game is usually the one they had the most fun with.

For Super Mario Galaxy 2, I was arguing against all the praise that the game got by critics. That game is NOT a 10/10! I think the first one should have gotten a 10/10, and the sequel is at least a 9/10. I do love Super Mario Galaxy 2 a lot, but it's just that I love the first game WAY MORE. I didn't know that the sequel has a reputation like trash by fans.... It shouldn't have a bad reputation, because I think it did a decent job of copying its predecessor.

And New Super Mario Bros 2 was alright, but nothing compared to the first New Super Mario Bros, which was so much better. I think that New Super Mario Bros Wii is way too overrated by the way, because I really didn't like it that much.

Super Smash Bros. (N64) and Super Smash Bros. Brawl are the only overrated Super Smash Bros games, IMO. Melee is one of my all-time favorites, though.

I also disagree with Kirby Super Star being overrated.

And yeah, I hate Call of Duty. I never owned a Call of Duty game, and never will. I played it at my friends' houses several times though, and didn't like it. I hate shooter games. I only play games on Nintendo systems, and the PSP.

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island is DEFINITELY underrated! I seriously LOVE that game!!!! <3

I also agree with Kirby Air Ride and Kirby's Dreamland 3 being underrated.

Yoshi's Story was... Meh at the least.

Super Mario Bros. 2 is AMAZING, so yeah. I agree. :)

And I obviously agree with Super Mario Sunshine.

And lastly, I think Mario Party 9 is also Meh.
Now that I think about it, KSS's remake is more overrated than the original.

I always hated the entire series of Grand Theft Auto, Counter-Strike and Call of Duty and always find them to be the most overrated games. I have played one of their games, then I hated them immediately and was never into games that are rated M. In the country I am living, many people enjoy playing it, but I never did and never will enjoy them in the future. People who are 5 or 6 years old start to play those games in my country. I will never understood why people like shooting games. I was never fond of them and they were never interesting to play. Another game series that are overrated are Need for Speed, Pro Evolution Soccer and the FIFA games. They can get repetitive and they're also nothing interesting to play. I don't think some games may be underrated, but some of them are like all of the Kirby Dreamland series, all of the Pokemon games for the GameBoy Advance.

I don't know what should I say else, since I am not that fond of video games anymore.

Yeah, I can agree with you there. The DS remake was pretty overrated. I still thought it was pretty decent, though.

Yeah, I hate rated M games. I was never into them, and I don't even want to play those kind of games either way. The only rated M games that I actually like are Family Guy Video Game and that kind of stuff.

I have nothing against shooters at all actually, which is considered stereotypically odd from a Ninteno fan

Fifa games however? It[s the same thing everytime and you can JUST PLAY THE SPORT IN REAL LIFE so no thanks

Overrated: Majorra's Mask (good, but it basically borrowed a ton of things from OoT)

Please don't kill me.
Yo...
That's on purpose.
Shigeru Miyamoto gave the dev team of Majora's Mask a year to make a sequel to Ocarina of Time in exchange for not having to work on a very grueling project that would eventually be hacked up and salvaged into OOT: Master Quest, so to speed up the development, they used resources from the earlier game and focused on making a new story and spicing up the engine.

Overrated:
Ocarina of Time
Mario Kart Double Dash
Super Mario 64
Super Mario Sunshine
Mario Party 6-8
HALO
HALO
HALO
Madden

Underrated:
Tomba 1 & 2
Super Mario Bros 2
Sega Soccer Slam
Anything on NES
Crazy Taxi
Sonic Adventures

Doesn't change the fact it borrowed very heavily from OoT.

It's a great game (second favorite), but let's be real here.

OoT stole half of it's locations from A Link to the Past

point is? You can still borrow elements and use them to make different ideas.
If you're talking about things such as lighting torches, hero's bow, hookshot, and pushing blocks, those are staples in every 3D Zelda in existence.
If you'lre talking about things such as the seahorse chase and the characters, both can be explained by Mothra.
There are tons of new ideas as well, such as the sidequests, transformation masks, temples (THere were no water flow and upside down puzzles, were there), locations, enemies, masks, etc.

And the way it uses those new ideas are great. I love the game. Don't see why what I said caused somewhat of a ruckus. :P The difference between ALTTP and OoT is that OoT uses those moreso as inspiration for its 3D landscape. 2D to 3D does cause a pretty big difference. While the things borrowed from OoT were pretty much the same.

I also wasn't talking of pushing blocks and the rest.

I'm quite aware of the new ideas, which is why despite its forgivable flaws I still enjoy it.

Overrated: Call of Duty, Halo, Uncharted, Final Fantasy VII, Super Mario Galaxy, Animal Crossing, Kirby games.

Underrated: Star Fox Adventures, Sonic Adventure 2, Ni No Kuni, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Phantasy Star IV, Fire Emblem games.

Of course it did, that's my point - taking ideas from other games isn't a bad thing
And yes, there are some carbon copies from OOT but I can think of very few... the Seahorse is one, Dampe's graveyard is another, certain minigames, the opening for Wart, Kakariko Village sign (lol) yeah there's a lot but it's all trivial IMO compared to the final product

Which is why I implied it only took a few points off for me. :P

I don't know, I actually liked the fact that Majora's Mask borrowed elements from OOT, that's what made it a worthwhile sequel. But like Mothra said, it was originally going to be an OOT expansion for the 64DD add-on for the N64 that sadly never got released outside of Japan. I'm glad they turned it into an entirely new game in the end.

You do realize that SA2 is probably the most praised Sonic game in existence? Unless you REALLY REALLY love it, I don't see how it can be underrated.
