#19 - Suction Cup Symphony
Writers: Luke Brookshier, Nathan Cash, Richard Pursel
SBmania Score: 8.3
Season: 6
The reason I like this one is going to be pretty short, so there will be a multi-update today.
Squidward is playing his clarinet, and Spongebob thinks that he ate Mexican food the night before, and the line delivery is actually kind of funny, as is the joke... they made a fart joke funny in a post-movie episode? This is something that I thought to be impossible, but they did it. I like that.
Two random workers start to put up a billboard, annoying Squidward. That is, until he finds out what it's for, the Bikini Bottom Orchestra. Squidward is obviously excited by this, and begins writing a symphony. Meanwhile, Patrick randomly breaks his butt. We also get a joke that I can't post about on a family-friendly website. ;)
Now let's get to the reason this episode is actually pretty good, the ending. Squidward does his symphony (it's mildly entertaining) and everyone starts cheering for Spongebob and first, which worried me. But then, they chant for Squidward!
What really makes this scene is how happy Squidward is about winning. It really is interesting to see the writers actually CARE about the existence of Squidward for once and this episode is proof that the writers can make an episode about Squidward winning entertaining. How many episodes do we have where Squidward actually wins in the end? I'm pretty sure it's four:
Band Geeks
Squilliam Returns
Suction Cup Symphony
House Fancy
3/4 of those episodes involve Squilliam, by the way. This episode would've most likely been in my top 10 if they added him in. Regardless, I still love it.
Best Part of the Episode: "Squidward! Squidward!"
Overall Score: 8.25
