Although Sponge Out of Water hasn't made its domestic debut yet, it opened in some other countries this weekend and international box office numbers are starting to come in.

From Deadline.com:

‘SpongeBob’ In Splashy Debut

Paramount Animation’s The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water made a splash at the international box office with $8M from 935 locations in five territories. Coming 11 years after The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, which cumed about $55M overseas, Sponge Out Of Water’s opening floats 27% above Penguins Of Madagascar, 19% ahead of Smurfs 2, and 20% below How To Train Your Dragon 2 for the same group of territories, according to the studio. Mexico, which was the 5th biggest offshore market for the original film, had a huge $6.7M bow to place No. 1 from 672 locations. Per Par, the result is 47% above Big Hero 6. Monday is a national holiday, suggesting that SpongeBob will continue cleaning up. In the Netherlands, the Paul Tibbitt and Mike Mitchell-helmed mix of animation and live action drew $639K at bow from 121 sites. Belgium was worth $340K from 66 locations and Taiwan delivered $311K from 65. In this take, the Bikini Bottom dweller heads into the world above sea level to find a stolen recipe. The film opens domestically on February 6.

$8M?! This movie isn't even out everywhere yet and it's already getting SO MUCH MONEY! I have a question though, the TMNT movie made $400M, do ANY of you think this movie can pass it? I know it can. Because TMNT got a lot of bad reviews and I don't blame em.

UH... I'm an idiot. Is it doing good?
I would say so.

TMNT had a wider audience to appeal to. Really doubt it'll break past $300mil.

Here’s Who Will Dethrone ‘American Sniper’ at Box Office

Kevin Hart, Jennifer Lopez, Johnny Depp and Kevin Costner couldn’t knock “American Sniper” out of the top spot at the box office, but a certain Hollywood heavyweight with a pineapple condo is about to do just that.

Would you believe it’s SpongeBob SquarePants?

Paramount Pictures’ animated kids film “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water” is tracking to open with around $35 million on Friday. That should be enough to end the three-week reign of the Iraq War saga, as well as beat “Jupiter Ascending” and “Seventh Son,” the weekend’s other two wide openers.

The film is doing really well in Mexico, hoping for a 40 million plus weekend for the US opening.

Let's hope it makes at least a billion dollars on the opening night.
That's impossible. No film can do that, not even Star Wars or Avengers

Anyway, I'm betting it does the best this weekend. Jupiters Ascending seems like a major flop.

It will do the best. I'm guessing 35-45 million, but watch out for American Sniper

I'm going to guess $40-$50 million on opening weekend

I predict it'll make a bajillion-million bucks the first day and be the most well liked and most money gotten ever movie of all time and it'll get a quadrillion sequels all of which just get better and better and make more and more money!!!! SpongeBob will be the next James Bond, but better!!!!!!! ;)

Predictions are pretty wide ranging, from mid-20s to over 40. There seems to be a decent chance that SpongeBob will be #1 this weekend though. According to Fandango, SpongeBob is the most anticipated movie for the weekend and is currently out-selling last year's Mr. Peabody and Sherman (which opened to $32.2). It's also looking healthy over on Movietickets.com where it's the second best selling movie (21% of total sales), behind 50 Shades of Grey (39%) but ahead of American Sniper (13%) and significantly ahead of Jupiter Ascending (8%).

Box Office: 'SpongeBob' Sequel Crushing 'Jupiter Ascending,' 'Seventh Son'

Paramount's sequel The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water is easily winning the North American box office race ahead of new big-budget entries Jupiter Ascending and Seventh Son. To boot, it is poised to steal the top perch from reigning champion American Sniper.

Based on Friday traffic, SpongeBob should gross between $35 million and $40 million for the weekend, if not more — a tidy sum for Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies. The $66 million family title made a nice splash last weekend overseas, where it made $8 million from its first five territories.
