Season 3 of Adventure Time has weird animation. Some episodes that are very early in the season, have the same artwork and background music as season 1-2, while episodes that are later in the season could easily pass for season 4 or season 5 episodes:

Conquest of Cuteness, the first episode of season 3, can easily pass for Season 2. It has the same color palate, art style, and background music as seasons 1 & 2:

However, episodes later in the season, like Dad's Dungeon or Incendium could pass for season 4 episodes. Some could even pass as season 5 episodes, and that's just with how the animation is in some of these episodes:

The change of the art style in Adventure Time was very sudden as easy to notice, with Regular Show, it was so gradual that it took a while for me to notice.
I noticed The Simpsons also used cel animation until season 20

Really? before season 20 it had shadows and usually cel animation has that effect

Yeah, that is true. But other effects include wobbliness and cue dots. Is it me or do some episodes in season 2 of spongebob look like they're cel animated, the dot crawl version of Sailor Mouth looks like it uses cel animation.

As for why the first few episodes of season 4 look pre-movie, is because Fear of a Krabby Patty, Shell of a Man, The Lost Matress, and Krabs vs. Plankton were the only season four episodes to be produced in 2004.

Procrastination looks like it has cel animation due to the low brightness of the episode

Spongebobs voice in battle for bikini bottom sounds like a transition from his pre movie to his post movie voice, you can hear both sometimes

they started using toon boom in season 4

I also believe they used Toons Prenium for seasons 2 & 3. I also heard it was the same software they used to animate the earlier seasons of family guy.

Speaking of which, here's the evolution of family guy:

Bubble Buddy has a unique art style that isn't seen anywhere else in the show, and out of every episode in season 2, this episode is the closest looking thing to season 1:

Although it's electronically colored, it maintains that homemade healthy organic look. Neptune knows what kind of primitive machinery was used to color these episodes. I like the subdued look of the earlier seasons. But modern episodes, especially post 2nd movie have a a genetically modified look, with cancerous bright colors. I for one, hate the new post sequel art style, episodes are so wacky and off-model nowadays to the point that the show no longer has a definitive art style:

Off model animation does not work in the age of crisp animation. This is when Spongebob is not making wacky faces, and it still looks weird and disproportionate. I would much prefer if they stuck with the art style that they had in the first half of season 9.

Season 8 is when peter's face started to get more fatter

Yeah, and every episode of Family Guy since season 9 looks exactly the same, to the point where I can no longer tell what season an episode is in anymore. As for season 8, it could only be distingushed, because it's the only modern FG season that's not in HD. Ever notice how SpongeBob has been the same shade of yellow since season 5, despite the show switching to HD in season 9. (Although there were a few palebob episodes in season six). Other than that, spongebob's shade of yellow doesn't change anymore, like it did in seasons 2-4. In Season 1, his color doesn't change either, but that's due to cel animation.
