It's ::dolphin noise::ed up when the references actually look better than the final versions. I guess that's one of the disadvantages of outsourcing

Honestly both look good and most people, like me, wouldn’t notice so idk how that's the most f'd up thing about it.

Maybe the f'd up thing about this could be the uncredited cartoonists of RDK...



(Which, side note, made me remember+relize that Hanna-Barbera did credit all of those who were involved with making episodes)

the details are finer and the colors pop more in the OG versions. the finals don't look as professional tbh, the brushstrokes and technique looks simpler, spongebob's hand looks weird, the objects in the BG (2nd image) completely lost their shading and texture, and the lines are super wobbly in the 1st

There's a very good chance there is because of the fact that they hired Rough Draft to do this commercial. If there was no English version, there'd likely be crappy puppet rigs done by some third party company.

People on the discord servers said that I had dumb reasons to justify the existence of an English version. There's many English speaking countries besides the US...

Reading this thread is a lot of fun! Honestly I didn't even notice the art style changes throughout these seasons, which tells you how little I pay attention (to be fair, i have bad eyesight, so that might play a part in this). Now that I see the differences and the various art styles, I will never be able to look at this show the same way again lol
