Most of you have probably heard of this film, which is a sequel to A Goofy Movie, but the main reason I made this topic is because I'm curious on what people on here think of the film. I've seen a lot of mixed opinions for this film online, and I'm curious what you all think of it.
Anyway, here are most of the things I enjoyed in the film.
+ By the far the strongest part about this film is Goofy himself. You probably know that I'm a big Goofy fan, and this film captures the spirit of what he is like in the first film, being genuinely funny and likable, as well as having a serious side to him that Disney often doesn't show. I'm completely invested in his character in this film and you really want to see him bond with his son.
+ On top of liking Goofy, I also enjoyed Sylvia, the college librarian who becomes a friend and love interest to Goofy. The relationship and romance between the two is very sweet and she is a very charming character.
+ P.J. gets a bigger role in this film from the first one, and I really liked what they did with him. While not as strong as the relationship between Goofy and Sylvia, I did like the relationship between P.J. and the beret girl and it's great to see him have good luck in life for once.
+ While not a fantastic villain, I did enjoy Bradley. The animators seemed like they had a great time drawing him as some of his facial expressions are hilarious and I think he's effective enough to be memorable.
+ Arguably my favorite scene in the film is when Goofy is depressed inside Max's empty room after he leaves for college. It's a very effective emotional moment and I really feel bad for Goofy in this scene.
+ Goofy's dream/nightmare scene about two thirds of the way through the film. It's so bizarre in a good way.
There are a few other things I liked, but these are the most notable things. Now, onto a few negatives I have.
- Despite being a great character in the first film, Max is definitely the worst thing about this film. He feels way too mean towards Goofy in this film and it seems like he genuinely dislikes him instead of just being embarrassed by him.
- The sports scenes, while they can have some funny moments, are nothing fantastic.
- I wish we got a little bit more of Pete in this film. Pete is definitely my favorite character outside of Goofy in these films and in Goof Troop, and while I understand that he wouldn't be a major character, I think a little bit more of him would have been nice.
- Some scenes drag on a little (mostly the previously mentioned sports scenes)
Overall, An Extremely Goofy Movie, while flawed and not a great film, is generally enjoyable. It's nowhere as good as A Goofy Movie, but the positives do outweigh the negatives and I think it's a good experience to see.
So, what do you think of this film, especially considering its mixed reception?
