195b. Larry's Gym

I really enjoyed watching this episode more than LongPants. First of all, the plot completely felt fresh for SpongeBob. We never got a chance to see a Larry-themed episodes (I don't count A Life in a Day since it was mostly about SpongeBob and Patrick). It was nice to see Larry doing something and it felt pretty interesting. Larry and SpongeBob's inteactions felt very amusing and pretty sweet. I actually laughed at this one more than LongPants, it had more amusing gags, especially from Mr. Krabs. This is pretty much how to use his greediness right, It didn't harm anyone and it didn't feel annoying at all. It was amusing through the whole episode. I have not much complaints about it, except maybe it could have been more loud out loud funny but in the end, this was a very good episode.

Grade: A-

It's kinda boring, not bad, but could've been better, The "My Leg" gag is back and made a return. Spongebob isn't too ignorant and he is funny too. Oh, and that twist ending is kind of predictable.

6.5/10

The episode was "meh" to me. Some of the jokes were funny but it was just... meh. :/ Larry was very likable in the episode though!

I feel about the same about this episode as I did with SBLP, Not meh or great, just good. Although I did like it a bit better than LongPants. Updated episode list:

1. The Sewers of Bikini Bottom (9.6/10)
2. Patrick! the Game! (9.5/10)
3. Squid Plus One (9/10)
4. What's Eating Patrick? (8.6/10)
5. Pull Up A Barrel (8.5/10)
6. Tutor Sauce (8/10)
7. Larry's Gym (7.6/10)
8. SpongeBob LongPants (7.5/10)
9. The Executive Treatment (7.3/10)
10. Sanctuary! (7/10)
11. Lost in Bikini Bottom (5.5/10)
12. Company Picnic (5/10)

This episode was really good, but I personally didn't like it quite as much as SpongeBob LongPants. Still a lot of really great gags and moments, though! 10/10!!! :D

I liked this one. It was really cool to see Larry get his biggest role to date, with a sort of arc. He's pretty likable here, makes me want more of him.

The episode wasn't terrible but it felt weirdly artificial. Like.... unnatural. The return of the time cards didn't feel natural. It felt like another show wearing Spongebob's skin or something.

Maybe the show is going through a transitional phase. It's a step up from the awfulness of seasons 6 through 9, and the show brings back glimmers of the "classic" feel, but it doesn't feel 100% like its old self.

I'm just gonna leave this here.

But yeah, Larry's Gym was better than LongPants.

And a deleted scene! Larry was supposed to originally say that the only thing worse than donuts is ground glass and then smash a glass cup in the fish's mouth. Unfortunately, Nickelodeon refused to let them do this gag and it was censored.

Such amazing cartoony drawings. I can understand a little from the cut gag. It was a bit unusual and a bit violent but I wouldn't mind that gag to be in the episode. It's funny.

There's this one track that plays when Krabs first appears that I'd like the name of, BTW.
"Sea Shanty Medley" by Phil Green from CPM.

time to insert my two cents

I actually really like this episode, and this episode actually proves Jack's writing skills for SpongeBob is starting to get on it's game now. I think creating a Larry episode was actually a smart idea, and I was more into this episode than LongPants because not many scenes were advertised here. I feel like the issue with Nick's advertising nowadays is how much spoilers it feeds to us. I hated LIBB, because Nick hyped the episode so much that it felt rather....dull. I'm not sure, post 2nd-movie is often overlooked, and I believe it's due to the poor advertising it receives now.

I agree. I remember being really disappointed when Nick was promoting Lost in Bikini Bottom heavily...thinking that fans were going to get a 22 minute special after we had that infamous long year hiatus; however, we only got an 11 minute episode. Which is still fine, but some fans (including myself) were kinda disappointed. On top of that, while the episode is funny, it wasn't really anything that Nick hyped it to be. Which is kind of a crappy move on the network's part.

I think Lost in Bikini Bottom deserved to be hyped up and did not disappoint. One of the best episodes of all time, in my opinion.
