I dont actually think this is the writer's best work. In matter fact this episode really tries to be heartwarming but it fails. The beginning was nice but by the time SpongeBob and Patrick insult Texas the tables are turned.

Ah, "Texas", probably one of the most nostalgic episodes for me. And no, once again, I don't know why. Well, this time I do have an idea, and it's that this episode was on the Nautical Nonsense and Sponge Buddies DVD, which was one of the only two SpongeBob DVDs I owned for a very long time. I remember there was a special feature on that DVD that showed Tom Kenny, Bill Fagerbakke, and Carolyn Lawrence recording lines for this episode, so I definitely watched that many, many times.

Anyway, let's get into the review. This episode is good. It's hilarious. And I love the plot. And, perhaps most importantly, it gives me a lot of meme fodder. Considering I know people from Texas, I get a lot of mileage out of the "Texas is dumb" joke, believe me. But in all seriousness, I really do like this episode. It's got a good balance of everything, from comedy, to plot, to emotional moments, to heartwarming moments, to songs.

I like that this episode is an exploration of not only Sandy's character, but her relationship with other characters, especially because up until this point, she's been a very insular character, not having many meaningful interactions with anyone outside of SpongeBob, and to a very small degree, Patrick. This episode is still just her interacting with SpongeBob and Patrick, but the party at the Krusty Krab shows that she at least has a relationship with other Bikini Bottomites, which I appreciate. Also, I think this is the first time we see Sandy angry, so once again, a good exploration of her character. It also makes complete sense that someone like Sandy, who very clearly feels very connected to her home, if her insistence on keeping her accent and Texasisms is any indication, would be homesick.

The "Texas" song is great, and it's a song that, although not talked about often, many people know and remember. I remember when I was younger, I'd sing it at school and make my friends laugh. That's a memory I cherish, so perhaps that warms me even more to this episode.

Again, this episode is absolutely hilarious, especially once SpongeBob and Patrick begin their plan to get Sandy to come to the Krusty Krab. Like that's a whole 3-4 minutes of pure laughter for me. Especially the chase scene. I swear to all that is, Patrick being lassoed off-screen and exploding is on my top 10 funniest SpongeBob SquarePants moments. This show's penchant of randomly blowing things up is a gag I always love, and the voice acting in this scene really makes the whole thing. Just a great scene and a great joke specifically.

The beginning of the episode is probably the slowest part of the whole thing, but I still love it. SpongeBob and Patrick playing in the sand is a cute moment, and very in character. So really, I have no real problems with this episode at all, and I love it a lot. For that reason, it sits up high in my "Amazing" tier, and is definitely in my top 5 episodes of this season (this is a change to my season 1 review from January, but I stand by it).

Episode Tier: Amazing
Episode Score:
9.4/10

there's alot of scenes where characters randomly explode like in "Jellyfishing" and "My Pretty Seahorse" where squidward just explodes for no reason, it's pretty funny
