Hello guys,

In some episodes Mr. Krabs can cook, and in some episodes he can't cook :krabso_O:

In episodes like Fungus Among Us and Accidents Will Happen he can cook:

In episodes like Squilliam Returns and Spongebob You're Fired he can't cook:

Discuss here.

The latter episodes are earlier in the timeline and the former episodes are later after he learns how to cook his own patties.
Or maybe he's just possessed and can only cook on Tuesdays.
Or maybe he actually is one of two Eugene Harold Krabs and has the ability to switch back and forth for the moment when one of them wants to do nothing but stay at home and watch Clamflix.

He must have been able to cook acceptably at some point because otherwise how could he have developed the recipe before setting up the Krusty Krab and hiring a fry cook to do it for him? From "Friend or Foe" we know that Plankton was involved with the conception of what would become the Krabby Patty but we can tell from the current state of the Chum Bucket that Plankton isn't a good cook either.

I don't think there's a definitive explanation for this. It's one of those things that varies depending on what they need to happen in the episode. The fact that SpongeBob is a better fry cook than Mr. Krabs is consistent, at least.

I think it's very weird he can't cook the food he (accidentally) invent.
It's probably been years since cooking in the "S.S. Diarrhea" so he forgot how to cook, or his cooking was bad and the eps he could cook, the food was awful to begin with.

Also, Squidward's cooking is inconsistent, too. In most episodes, he burns everything he cooks. But in "Bubble Buddy," he's shown flipping patties and cooking burgers like a boss.
And in the comic where Spongebob got sick, Squidward said that he was working the register AND the grill. I wonder if he burned everything in that instance. He didn't say he did, though.

Spongebob Squarepants is a surreal slice-of-life show with little to no continuity, and it seems to just roll with whatever happens to be funniest and/or necessary to the plot.

Maybe he's like SpongeBob. The only thing he can cook is Krabby Patty.

Well he invented it, not neccessarily fry cooked it.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. He can also cook in that episode where he made a soufflé or whatever it was... I can't even remember the episode.
In "Squid's Visit", he was cooking a casserole (or something), too.

It's often implied he's a great cook.

I could imagine him just CLAIMING and pretending he can't cook Krabby Patties, since he already hates the job and never wants to take on MORE jobs there. Also, being good at cooking fancy dishes doesn't mean one will automatically be any good at fast food - especially if you hate fast food. ;)

As for Krabs and cooking, I've no idea. E.V.I.L's suggestion is pretty much what I tend to go with as the reason.

In SpongeBob Moves In he seemed like he was doing okay handling frycookery before he hired employees. In Squiditis he had to be the cashier and frycook again and was exhausted by the time he was done. But if he had people coming for years (?) before he hired anyone, than he must have been doing something right. Maybe he gets distracted and thus can't always cook well. To be fair he was probably just making the same food as he did on the S.S. Diarrhea and not Krabby Patties as that wouldn't be gourmet food to serve to Squilliam. Maybe he just has a problem creating recipes like the appetizer or the early version of the Krabby Patty that posioned Old Man Jenkins. But in reality, he's okay just cooking and preparing the meals.

Too many responses so I don't care about reading through them right now.

I think his cooking depends on his mood. Maybe not in every episode but most of the time it does. I think the same could be said with squidward.
