Back in Karate Choppers it was shown that Sandy was equal to SpongeBob in karate, yet she suddenly got better than him with no explanation. I mean they've been doing it the same time. Before you go all cartoon logic on me and writers decisions and blah blah blabbity blah, think about it. The only thing I can think of is steroids. I mean she could've been showing side effects like rage in some episodes like "Survival of the Idiots". They've been doing the exact same things together so it makes no sense.

You know, I think Sandy has been better than SpongeBob at Karate because she's stronger. We've known since "Ripped Pants" that SpongeBob isn't particularly strong. There was only really one episode where they were equally matched anyway.

For the sake of a more interesting story in Karate Island, but unfortunately the idea stuck and there's no turning back.

I guess with SpongeBob being a sponge and all therefore having weaker limbs but you think over time with the same stuff they'd be equal. :/

I don't think it was sudden; it's always been the case. The very first time SpongeBob met Sandy she was clearly stronger and superior at fighting, and throughout the series they consistently emphasize that SpongeBob is weaker and less skilled than she is. Sandy>SpongeBob is the norm and if anything "Karate Choppers" was anomalous for showing them to be more evenly matched.

I guess but still it wasn't as exaggerated as it is now, and it's personally annoying and I'd like to know why they'd have the main character like that to begin with.

Because having perfect main characters is cliche and boring.
If SpongeBob were this perfect, well-rounded man who did everything right, there is no doubt in my mind that I would despise him. :P

Perhaps Sandy practiced more than SpongeBob. AND, she is stronger then Spongy.

Yeah, I really never understood why people say this. Sandy has always been stronger and more skilled than SpongeBob, this has been shown since her first appearance. Karate Choppers is the odd one for making them evenly matched, literally no episode before or after Karate Choppers showed them to be evenly matched, so the fact that people are so insistent that that episode should be the one taken as canon is weird to me..

What do you mean they've been doing it at the same time? How do you think SpongeBob knew about karate in the first place?

...because SANDY POSSIBLY TAUGHT HIM HOW. She is going to be better than SpongeBob at karate at that time because she knew karate more than SpongeBob did.

I think people here never even saw The Way of Sponge. In that episode, Sandy tries to convince Fuzzy that SpongeBob is a great karate chooper as her. So yeah, SpongeBob is good at karate almost much as Sandy.

I hate it when people pin the blame on Karate Island. He was clearly outmatched in No Weenies Allowed. =/
Don't forget Spongebob Buffpants and the beginning of Ripped Pants, both from season 1.

Sandy is stronger than SpongeBob. But I think the writers these days are trying to glorify Sandy's power and overpush the fact that SpongeBob is a weakling. For the sake of flanderization.
