As you may or may not be aware, Krabs has the tendency to refer to Squidward as "Mister Squidward" instead of "Mister Tentacles" Why is this, you ask?

Well, in the Great Snail Race, everyone keeps mispronouncing Squidward's last name. So it stands to reason that Krabs couldn't pronounce Tentacles properly either, and just started to call him "Mr. Squidward" (since in the Navy it's customary to call someone "Mister [Last Name]")

I got this from Star Trek of all places, because Spock is referred to as "Mr. Spock" even though that's his first name. It is said that this is because Spock's last name cannot be pronounced by Humans.

I think it just sounds funnier/more appealing, what with the rhyming

Put this under fridge brilliance on Tv Tropes

oh i get it because squidward is like spock

Oh yes, in Are You Happy Now? Norton pronounced it 'Tent-uh-clees' and like you said, The Great Snail Race

You totally stole my thunder!! I was literally thinking just a few days ago about how nobody had ever questioned this!! :P

EDIT: I was just gonna say that Mr. K simply didn't care enough to ever learn his last name. :P

or maybe they aren't all north americans, like, in my country we dont call people with their last name when calling "mister" :P

Because Mr. Krabs sees Squidward as more mature than Spongebob.

Something else I thought of: Mr. Krabs doesn't seem interested in using formalities in general. I mean, when do you ever hear him call Spongebob "Mr. SquarePants?" or "Mr. SpongeBob?" He may use "Mr. SquarePants" occasionally, but mostly Mr. Krabs just calls him Spongebob. He's probably just not a very formal dude. He owns a fast-food joint and is a cheapskate, so what do you expect?
