I don't see it that way primarily because while it would've served as great ending to Seasons 1 to 3, it would feel more like a cop-out of sorts to all the other episodes that seemingly take place after the movie as well as to Plankton's "personality" of sorts...

I'm starting off with the point I have with Plankton - why, throughout the entirety of the series up to this supposed end point (not really "supposed" consider there's a decent amount of people who think this) relapse back to being this evil? You got to consider that the second movie is a thing in that it somewhat helped humanize Plankton to where he can ultimately put his schemes aside to help the others out, and yes while he did seemingly relapsed here - he only relapses on his formula ediction not "enslave Bikini Bottom" and "become a tyrannical dictator" ediction.

Plus you got to consider how many times he's escaped prison of which of those many times could take place after the movie. Personally, I think Krabby Road takes place directly after the first movie being that Plankton was put in a maximum security jail cell and they even give a reason as to why he was in there (i.e. stealing the formula).

Now on to my point about the episodes - at this point, post sequel pretty much takes place after the first movie given how many pre-movie references there are. Top it off with the fact that the "Hey SpongeBob's Back!" fish had a resurgence and Bubble Bass' permanant return in 9B you got yourself stuff that could seemingly take place after the first movie.

Now what about the Krusty Krab 2? I'm pretty sure one could chalk up it's fate to Mr.Krabs seemingly closing it down either because of taxes or because keeping one Krusty Krab open is cheaper than keeping two open. Plus maybe it could be because of rights issues, where Paramount didn't lease out rights for Nickelodeon to use the KK2 because they didn't think it would garner nostalgia like Goofy Goober.

Anyways that's my TEDtalk, or SPONGEtalk...

I hadn't thought about it like this before, but you know what I agree with you. The movie is a great conclusion for the first few seasons, but now that the show has developed further, especially in the area of Plankton's character as you said, it doesn't make as much sense. Something like the second movie would be a more fitting conclusion to the series now, if we were to get a real conclusion.

Really, the only element of the first movie that makes it feel like the conclusion of the show is SpongeBob becoming the manager of the Krusty Krab, which I think is something that could still be done (maybe him also just becoming the straight up owner) if the show were given a proper conclusion.

Yeah I did always kinda wonder what happened to the Krusty Krab 2 after the first movie as we never got to see it again

Personally, if I were to put a time frame on how long Krabby Road takes place after the movie, it'd probably be a few months, I'd even through in Jailbreak between the two but that's optional.

Anyways the reason why is because we have Karen who doesn't want anything to do with Plankton when he comes back. Of course SpongeBob probably would have some knowledge but assuming him and his good nature he probably thought Plankton got out on bail. (Hence why I included Jailbreak incase if people didn't believe this)

Okay, so I looked more into the this and saw that Plankton had gotten the secret formula, someone said that it wouldn't make sense for him to just forget about it (along with Mr.Krabs shutting down KK2) but let me explain.

Plankton is usually prideful/envious when he wins - he was pretty much arrogant in the first movie being that his motivations immediately turned into just becoming a tyrannical dictator upon being called out by Squidward. So, Plankton could have forgotten that upon the midst of his rule in Bikini Bottom OR after he got arrested, and ultimately lost all that pride and envy becoming depressed or angry - forgetting the formula while being hauled off to prison. I would know considering that I've forgotten stuff while feeling like that (hold what Plankton did) so in a way he probably would have just forgotten the formula either out of joy of taking Bikini Bottom, ignorance after the former, depression upon being arrested, or anger upon being arrested.

Of course, anger is more likely since you do see that but then again seeing how Plankton reacts to defeat, he usually would get sad after... (or depressed when the defeats hit him deeply)

I want to add on this that this would not be a good send off to Squidward, the one who practically tried to at least put a stop to Plankton until he turned all of Bikini Bottom into a slave state and the one who gave SpongeBob the manager tag only to be embarrassed by him, heck, more likely SpongeBob disregarded what Squidward said.

I guess we could say Band Geeks could take place after the movie if we want to end off Squidward's story nicely. (in terms of Pre-Movie standards)
