Today, I stumbled upon this topic on Nick.com called "Real SpongeBob Fans ONLY!"

http://www.nick.com/mynick/messageboards/viewthread.jhtml?bID=57&tID=4008155&mID=20112747&offset=0

Here's what said on the Nick.com Topic quoted below:

If you clicked on this topic, then that means that you're a fan of the good Spongebob episodes. (1999-2004) This also means that you aren't a fan of the bad episodes. (2005-present) Use this board to post your opinions on what you think the current episode writers should do to make the new episodes like the old ones and make the show good again. Also post lists of your favorite episodes from the good old days and appreciation for the good episodes.
Okay, first off, the real SpongeBob fans aren't the ones who are just into the old episodes and when they see Fear of a Krabby Patty and they're like:"NO, the show is now ruined!"

The real SpongeBob Fans are the ones who loves Pre-Movie and Post-Movie (Which I mean the ones who still gave the show a chance and sticks with it.) Sure, Seasons 1-3 are the best out of the other seasons, but the other seasons have enjoyable episodes too.

Also, people shouldn't just say that "Post-Movie is terrible period.", why don't they do a Compare and Contrast both Pre-Movie and Post-Movie.What's good? What's Bad?, etc.

So in conclusion, the true SpongeBob Fans are the ones who love Pre-Movie and Post-Movie (or gave Post-Movie a chance.)
Also, a true SpongeBob Fan also loves SpongeBob because of the merchandise and Fans.

A true SpongeBob fan is those who doesn't necessarily have every merchandise or every DVD.
They don't necessarily have every SpongeBob bed sheets or plush toys.
True SpongeBob fans are those who trusts the show.
Never gave up on the show.
Tingles in happiness when the they listened to the theme tune.
Smiles whenever an episode is shown on TV.
Laughs whenever a funny moment is shown.
Feels comfortable watching it.
And feels that the show is comfortable to watch.
Always an optimist, hoping for the better, whenever a bad new episode aired.
Defends the show.
And most importantly, love the show.

That's what I also meant.

Fans who can like either post or pre. I don't mind anymore older fans who stopped watching the show do to a "decline". (As long as they don't complain about it endlessly. :p) They were loyal in their time and they have their opinions too. Fans can come in all shapes an sizes. Anyone can be a fan.

It's really simple: If you liked/like Spongebob, you're a fan. If you think Spongebob is horrible now, don't get associated, but don't complain about it. If you say someone isn't a true Spongebob fan because they like the episodes that many people despise, or the other way around, you're giving them an unfair treatment because they like the sponge. And if you encounter a person like that, just ignore them.

Well for one thing, most of those people at Nick.com are little kids, they're going to always be inclined to say something dramatic. :p

I'm sorry if I've come across as one of those kinds of fans in the past. It's not that I think post-movie has absolutely nothing worth watching. In fact, Dungeons and Dragons, Krusty Towers, Frozen Face-Off, Single-Cell Anniversary, Sing a Song of Patrick, SpongeBob's Last Stand, and Glove World R.I.P. are all great, and Squidward in Clarinet Land, I Heart Dancing, License to Milkshake and Chum Fricassee are quite good. Have You Seen This Snail is also one of my favorite SpongeBob episodes. It's just that SpongeBob was known for being consistently great instead of being mediocre with small sparks of greatness every now and then and even if it's improving, I still don't think it was worth the three or four years of complete crap (mainly 2007-2009). Also, I still believe that a cartoon should end relatively quickly (say anywhere between 4-5 years) so that it doesn't lose any of its freshness and becomes a shell of its former self.

That being said, though, I should really try to catch up on my SB as I still want to watch the show to see if it can still be good, if not amazing. There are also pre-movie episodes that I just hate, like "I'm With Stupid" and "Squirrel Jokes" and others that I don't care for, like "MM&BB III" and "Dumped."

I dislike the concept of "true/real fans" because it unfairly segregates certain fans based on personal preferences and only ever gets whipped out in arguments. So instead, here's what I think makes a good fan.

A good fan enjoys the show to some degree. They might just like the old episodes, or just the new ones, or all of the episodes. They don't blindly accept everything with SpongeBob's name slapped on, but also don't blindly reject or insult something because it's from a certain era. While they love the show very much, they are able to be critical and objective, and accepting of the criticisms of others. They are respectful of other fans' likes and dislikes. They are optimistic but also realistic.

“____ sucks/is awesome and people who don't think so aren't true fans” leads to arguments and hurt feelings.

“I personally hate/love ____ and here are the reasons why, but that is my opinion. What do you guys think?” leads to respectful and interesting discussions.

Remember … no employee fan wants to be a Squidward that first guy.

Sounds like me :), though I do have most plush toys and have some bed sheets :P

But I don't like those that say true fans only like the older episode, a true fan gives each new episode a chance and doesn't simply see a new episode as a bad one.

I thought the nick fourms were full of 8 year olds...

A true SpongeBob fan can deal with the new episodes and stuck with the show, the show's seen better years, but we still all watch it.

A fake fan would be ones who ONLY like the first 3 seasons.

So that guy just made a fool of himself.
