I mean why in the first place do clouds look like flowers underwater? Clearly they are clouds, as Sandy stated so in Pressure if I recall correctly. But they also have normal clouds when it rains or whatever. Is it possible that underwater creatures think these things are clouds when in reality they're something else? Possibly flowers that have fallen off something in the surface world, and reflect down to the ocean? But how can there be flowers around when all we have is Bikini Isle near Bikini Bottom? I guess in the world of SpongeBob, there are two different clouds. Normal ones that we humans have and flower shapen ones.

I like to think of the lilli pads you find in ponds or stuff like that you find in lakes. When you look up at the surface of the water, I think maybe that's what they were going for? :dunno:

I was saying that too, but the problem is there isn't any flowers around Bikini Isle, so I would wonder how lilipads and all that would get there in the first place.

They're using their IMAGINATION to see flower clouds :pattongue:

I've actually wondered this to. I guess the were added because, I don't know, they didn't want the background sky to just be plain blue maybe? So they add the flowers in the background perhaps, to give the background more depth.
The flowers to us, just may be eye-candy who knows?

Maybe the flower clouds aren't rain clouds, although there have been occasions like in "Bummer Vacation" where SpongeBob was staring at the clouds that looked like the ones we see in everyday life. However, he could have just been picturing clouds so it is possible that Bikini Bottom has different types of clouds.

Now, this is something I can't explain.

The flower clouds are usually something taken for granted, but once you've read this topic it's hard to unsee them in almost every scene. They're even in the skin! They're everywhere!! :P

The bomb tests on Bikini Atoll mutated them to look like flowers, and gave them colors, and precipitation doesn't fall from them anymore. NEW CONSPIRACY THEORY ALERT! :pattongue:
I'd come up with pretty much the same, that it was due to the nuclear tests.

Where is that from, I'm confused. :wetpaint:
It's a screenshot of the forum (I couldn't read which thread, but I'm guessing of Cha's first post in this one). If you're using the mobile version, then you'd have to flip over to the full version to see it look like that.

Er, never mind, I'm blind and dumb sometimes..

I guess they were originally designed to be cloud substitutes since you can't have real clouds underwater, but occasionally the writers/artists forget or ignore it for the sake of a joke, like when SpongeBob sees cloud patterns in Bummer Vacation.

I also think it's just a common theme in Bikini Bottom. SpongeBob has similar little flowers around his house and in the concept artwork and some Season 1 episodes when they show the Bikini Bottom cityscape there's a big flower arch downtown.

In an interview with Steve Hillenburg, he said it was just to give it a Hawaiian feeling. I forget where I saw the interview, though. It might have been the one with Biff Tannen.

it's BIKINI BOTTOM, it's flower themed.
