Title is self explanatory. This question came to me because, last night, I dreamed of an entirely new SpongeBob special and I don't even remember what it was about. I didn't wake up until 1PM today. I was in DEEP sleep. I only really remember it was a really good special. Let me start:

Choir Boys.

I didn't even know it's sister episode ever existed. Choir Boys was an episode where I only really have three memories of it. One was that it extremely rarely aired on TV, and I remember every single time it did. Second was the scene where SpongeBob stops Squidward in a kelp garden area. and third was Squidward coughing for way too long and being horrible at choir. I think the whole scene of SpongeBob being carried by jellyfish was different in my head every time I saw it.

Honorable mention is Battle for Bikini Bottom. I never owned that episode on DVD but I swore that everytime I watched it was on DVD. It's so odd.

Funnily enough, One Coarse Meal of all episodes. I remember seeing the nightmare scene and thinking it was cool, but then I never saw it again for years afterward and thought I just dreamed that scene and it wasn't actually real.

So when it comes to this, the only example I have is just remembering Season 3 in general.

I never got around to watching the majority of Season 3 until I was older and that was mainly because of the imagery of SpongeBob getting arrested. So as a result, I limited myself to not watching any of it.

Most of the "out of context" Season 3 scenes could be considered as fever dreams in of itself, like Patrick with a 2 by 4 nailed onto his head in My Pretty Seahorse or the depressed fish who says "goodnight dear".

This is a really interesting question, and I've been thinking of it for a bit, trying to figure out if I have an example to share. There are episodes that feel like fever dreams, like "Squidward in Clarinetland" or "SpongeHenge", but in terms of episodes that I actually thought were fever dreams? I'm...not sure. I know for me, any episode that could fall into this category would have to be a part of seasons 5-8, because my memories of the seasons surrounding those are too good for me to ever make that mistake. And so I think the only episode that could ever potentially fit this bill is "Ditchin'", which, along with its sister, "Dear Vikings", is probably my number one most forgettable episode of this show. I don't think I quite ever found this episode to be a fever dream, but having that void of knowledge about what the episode is about is trippy on its own as someone with a kinda encyclopedic knowledge of this show.

"Born To Be Wild" or "The Krusty Sponge." I've only seen "Born To Be Wild" on DVD and same with "The Krusty Sponge" altho I did see it air on tv once or twice when I was around 12.
