Were You a Chuunibyou?

I don't expect anyone to know what that means. :P Yet.

Chuunibyou roughly/commonly translates to (with some localization) "8th Grade Syndrome".
It's not a legit illness, but is more-so a phrase.

Basically, what it refferences is a kid who is in their middle-school years (or originally, a kid in their 2nd year of Japanese junior high; since there, the school years go 6-3-3 for Primary-Junior-Senior). But here in the States, we go by grades. And our years can go 5-3-4. :P

So anyway, it refers to a kid in middle school years, who -- to be brief -- has ego issues, let's say. Examples of fictional chuunibyou characters are believing they have mysterious powers, but non-fictional examples may be that the kid believes they are better/stronger than others. It could be anything in that category, really.

As for me; yes, I admit. I had fallen victim. :|

I had "always" loved SpongeBob, since I was little. But... Around 5th-6th grade, I had discovered anime; and around 6th-8th grade I started drifting away from SpongeBob and other things; eventually thinking that anime was better.

Also, I was so addicted to magical girl anime, that I actually believed that a Luna or little mascot animal would find me and I'd become a magical girl or Sailor Moon character lol

I look back on that now and looooool

So... you? (of if you're still in middle school :P )

I thought you meant the anime by the same name.

Anyway, I haven't been a victim of the 8th grade syndrome. Which is odd considering I also discovered anime and other things.

...I'm sorry, what? I honestly have no idea what any of that was supposed to mean.

In 8th grade (2007, I think) NO show was better than SpongeBob and NO artist was better than Amy Lee.
At least that's over now

Not gonna lie, that whole thing reminded me of Haruhi Suzumiya a bit. :P

I don't remember being arrogant at the time, except that all current pop artists were garbage (except for Gorillaz and Coldplay, obvi) and that there was no way someone could NOT like the Beatles. Nowadays, I'm a bit more accepting towards others' opinions, and there are more pop songs these days that I can enjoy as just pop songs and nothing more. (However, I still am a bit arrogant because I think my music taste is more developed than others' even though I've really only scratched the surface of the wide world of music. I try not to be, though. Arrogance is one of the traits I find most annoying in a person.)

xD I'm bad at explaining newish things, lol sorry.

I'll just give an UD link lol http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Chuunibyou

The whole thing is a bit tough to explain to a Western/non-Japanese group, unless you're familiar with anime crud...and I'm not the best at explaining either so sorry

But to put it simply, basically any weird phase(s) you went through durring middle-school yers or even early high-school?

I have to agree with you here that last part. I get mad at people who don't judge songs in the same way I do. For example, my sister said she liked the song "Blurred Lines" and I criticized her for liking it solely for catchiness. I try not to be that judgmental now, though.

I like "Blurred Lines" for the same reason :P
EDIT: I just looked the song up on Wikipedia and it's R&B, Disco and Soul which are genres I love VERY much. So yeah, I still love it because it's catchy.

I don't know, Blurred Lines was just really boring for me. When it comes to disco-inspired hits from 2013, Daft Punk will always be king, in my opinion, even if "Get Lucky" was played to death on the radio. (Random Access Memories was an excellent album as well.)

This is the point where I tell you both "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk and Pharrell Wiliams' "Happy" are two of my favourite songs of all time :p

I'm a 10th grader so it's a bit too late for me :p

But somewhere at Middle School (either at 8 or 9 grade) I have this sudden surge in Indonesian patriotism. Before that, I usually look down on my own country, I would think "America looks awesome!","Japan is cool","Indonesia sucks". Suddenly I become "America actually sucks","Japan is OVERRATED!","Indonesia rules!".
