Welcome to Roadie's TOP 5. Where I voice my opinion and hear from you!

It feels glorious to say my catchphrase after a year.

You might be wondering, what is fridge brilliance. Well, you know that moment when you saw something really weird and nonsensical in an episode? Fridge brilliance is the moment when you realised that it actually made clever, silent sense.

For example, let's say you are new to watching SpongeBob. You've just watch a couple of episodes and you started thinking "How stupid can Patrick be?" You started disliking him and the show, as you thought there is no way a person can be that stupid. But then one day in biology class, the teacher told you that real-life starfish don't have brains. Suddenly it hit you! You've realised why Patrick is so dumb! He's a starfish and starfish don't have brains! From then on, you started liking the show and Patrick.

Fridge Brilliance is the moment where you've realised why Patrick is so dumb. The creators of SpongeBob designed his character to be as similar as a real-life starfish.

Fridge Brilliance is a term created by TV Tropes. You can study it more there.

Trust me, in SpongeBob, there are many fridge moments. But I'll just list 5 of my favourites.

1 : EVERYTHING'S BIGGER IN... ALASKA!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJ4u8I1RNWg

Remember when Sandy played the "EVERYTHING'S BIGGER IN TEXAS" card in the episode "Sandy, SpongeBob & The Worm"? She took back her words, as it turns out, the worm is bigger and scarier than her. At first I thought this was just the story being a story. But it's actually really really clever. I mean, if you think about it, Texas is one MASSIVE American state. But the worm came from one state bigger than Texas : ALASKA!

2 : THE NOT-REALLY-MAGIC PENCIL

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaEaGJUy0Mw

The episode Frankendoodle starts out with an artist at sea dropping his pencil into Bikini Bottom. Turns out, in Bikini Bottom, the pencil became magical. I thought at first that this is a stupid concept. But then again, the artist at sea is Mr. Lawrence. A writer and voice actor for the show. Obviously : everything drawn or written by him comes to life in Bikini Bottom!

3 : GOOD NOODLE STARS

How did SpongeBob achieve 73 good noodle stars?! The rest of the students are so left behind, it's almost unrealistic and impossible. Doesn't make any sense don't you think? Well, that is until you've realised he has failed so many final tests. He failed to graduate so many times. He had to attend enough semesters to achieve that amount of stars.

4 : PATRICK THE DRIVER

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqtdHYy_a5g

When I first watch Driven to Tears, I was a bit confused. If SpongeBob couldn't drive a boat how come an idiot like Patrick could? At first I thought it was just, again, the story being a story. But in Boating School, it was Patrick who helped SpongeBob to cheat his way to his driving license. It was an undetected character trait. Patrick is basically Bikini Bottom's answer to Jeremy Clarkson. He's an idiot. But he's a bloody brilliant driver.

5 : SEXIST PANTS

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqCHqnW90zY

And last, but not least, the most obvious, infamous yet funniest of the lot. SpongeBob called Gary a "lady" to motivate him. Suddenly Sandy felt the urge to kick SpongeBob's butt. Doesn't really make sense until you realised that what SB said was actually to demean and humiliate Gary at the same time. The reason why Sandy randomly plots revenge is because that was a sexist remark!

So what do you think? Anything particularly shocking? Do you have any more fridge brilliance moments in SpongeBob to share? Let us know in the posting section below.

Bye.

I thought Sany did because he was overworking Gary.
Very interesting.

Wait, is the last one really a shock to anyone? I realized that right away... it's partly why I like the episode so much.

The other ones were quite mind-blowing, though.

Yup. The last one is especially brilliant. I love the subtle messages and jokes on this show. Even Driven to Tears makes more sense now.

I think the pencil one is the most brilliant by far. I was like "w.w.w.w.w.WOW!" I've known #5 for a long time, though.

Squidward's bad at playing the clarinet due to him not having actual fingers to cover the clarinet holes.

He's shown to have fingers sometimes. But if that's the case, then Squilliam would be bad too, which he isn't. So this theory is denied.

Squilliam is so talented and beautiful and funny and strong and cute , He probably manages to play well, even with his limitation.

I read somewhere that there's a deleted scene in that one with Sandy getting arrested for attacking SB.

I read that somewhere too. I'm glad it didn't happen, it kind of would have wrecked what they were going for.
