Because a lot of people have been complaining about Spongebob's design in seasons 6 through 8, I thought I'd do a post about one of the most important attributes of Spongebob's design- his nose.

normally it should be drawn like this- perky and whatever


much like the ears of certain other characters, Spongebob's nose is another indicator of his mood or current state of mind or physical being.

Going really off-model for certain scenes where it's really funny, like this, is acceptable


If his nose is drooping slightly, like this, that probably means he's really upset without having 100% reached the horizon of despair:


If his nose is entirely drooping, like Squidward's, that generally means three things; that he's either very drunk, very sick, or very depressed.

At some point during the show's run, the artists on the show started drawing Spongebob like this:

That face is hideous, and on a terrible episode. Glad they stopped making those ugly faces.
 
I really like when he changes emotions his nose goes up or down.

He looks like a stupid nerd.
 
Thank you. One of my least favorite aspects of post-movie (art wise) was how they drew his nose.
