Like alot of shows, SpongeBob is very well suited for a good video game adaptation. We got that with Battle for Bikini Bottom and The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie game. However, recently we've got 2 sub-par games, Plankton's Robotic Revenge and SpongeBob HeroPants. There is alot of potential lost with these two recent games, especially HeroPants as the plot of Sponge Out of Water seemed perfect for a video game. I'm sure you guys have ideas for a SpongeBob video game, whether it's just a video game adaptation of an episode, or a completely new idea. Say them here, as simple or as complex they might be.

Here's my unfinished idea (spoiler because it's long)

It would be a collect-a-thon type game, similar to the Movie game or BFBB, featuring Truth or Square-like gameplay with a heavy emphasis on unique platforming. It would have SpongeBob, Plankton, Patrick and Squidward as playable characters, with Krabs and Sandy being important to the plot as well. Plankton can team up with SpongeBob, and Patrick can team up with Squidward in a way similar to BFBB's character switching. Each level will have 8 missions, similar to Mario 64 or BFBB. Each mission contains a new part of the level, featuring one quest unreachable until the end of that whole world, and a mission specifically requiring Plankton and SpongeBob.

SpongeBob is making Krabby Patties at the Krusty Krab, as Patrick barges in. Patrick looks at the secret formula, but SpongeBob warns him not to. Patrick ignores SpongeBob and grabs the bottled formula. Just then, Plankton swoops in and grabs it from Patrick. He then lands into a vat of fry grease, that's steaming hot. Plankton climbs out, but due to the bubbling nature of the fry grease, the bottle heats up and the cork and formula come flying out of the Krusty Krab, through the smokestack atop. Mr. Krabs comes into the scene, and scolds all 3 of them. He then orders SpongeBob and Patrick to find his formula or SpongeBob will be fired, and Patrick banned from the Krusty Krab. But first, Plankton attempts to get his revenge, in a tutorial boss fight.

TUTORIAL - WORLD 0 - KRUSTY KRAB KITCHEN

- Fight a simple Plankton, as he manages to avoid all of your attacks.

- Krabs acts as guide, explaining how to attack, using SpongeBob.

After this, Plankton leaves the Krusty Krab defeated, while SpongeBob and Pat venture out into the first world.

HUB - AREA 1 - KRUSTY KRAB/CHUM BUCKET AREA

- Cannot go back into Krusty Krab, Krabs instead introduces them to

- Chum Bucket is blocked by Karen, saying Plankton is busy. (contains final level of Area 1 and boss)

- There are 3 levels here, Chum Bucket, Residential Bikini Bottom, and Jellyfish Fields

- There are a handful of CPUs walking around, including a handful of Bikini Bottomites and Squidward.

- All levels can be reached using the Taxi system from BFBB

- Levels are in no set order but preferred order is Jellyfish Fields/Residential/Chum Bucket

- Jellyfish Fields is unlocked first, with Residential and Chum Bucket requiring collectibles.

Player then proceeds into Jellyfish Fields, where they meet Sandy, and she has lost her oxygen tank to the hive of Jellyfish in one of the Jellyfish Caves. In reward, she introduces the pair to the game's equivalent to Golden Spatulas, "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy Trading Cards". These are used to unlock new places, or hidden areas. This mission can only be completed using SpongeBob, so Patrick stays behind.

JELLYFISH FIELDS - MISSION 1: SCALE TO THE CAVE - JELLYFISH FIELDS ENTRANCE

- has SpongeBob trekking up and down hills, all while fighting a newly acquired foe, the Jellyfish. The best you can do is jump on them, stopping them in their tracks, but they will start moving towards you after a certain amount of time.

- simple level, showcasing SpongeBob's platforming abilities.
  • He can do a spin twirl (think like Mario Galaxy's)
  • Can use bubble wand as a weapon and can perform the Bubble Spin from BFBB
  • He can perform a double jump
  • Can turn into a bridge to allow characters such as Patrick or Plankton to cross over dangerous parts of a map. (not used in this level)
  • Can unlock ability to transmorph into a drill and find hidden areas, usually rewarded with a Trading Card. (unlocked after completing HUB 2)
  • Can unlock multiple transformation gimmicks while teamed up with Plankton (only used in level used, cannot use elsewhere)
  • Can absorb water to spray at objects, at the cost of limiting SpongeBob's mobility. However in this form, SpongeBob can hover spraying water from him onto the ground, allowing him to reach higher places.
  • Maybe more??? I dunno at this point
JELLYFISH FIELDS SIDE MISSIONS -
  • Rescue Plankton from a fleet a jellyfish by turning into a Jellyfish yourself. (SpongeBob only)
  • Tunnel underground for a card
  • Find and return Squidward's reed collection from the Jellies (Patrick mission)
  • Rescue Squidward from a group of Bikini Bottom thugs (Patrick mission)
  • Find the bottle from the Krabby Patty formula (final mission of HUB area 1, not playable until then)
  • Reach Jellyfish Rock
JELLYFISH FIELDS - MISSION 2 - TOUGHEN UP WITH PATRICK

- showcases Patrick's brute strength featuring:
  • Bellyflop - essentially the bodyslam move from BFBB, but with less of an effect. Cannot stun foes.
  • Spin - Similar spin as SB's but is not for platforming, instead it can send aerial enemies to the grave
  • Throwing ability
  • Cartwheel - from Movie game
  • When paired with Squidward, can use Squidward as hammer similar to Patrick power-up from Truth or Square
  • more???
After Jellyfish Fields, a cutscene plays showing Plankton in his lab. Plankton shows off to Karen a robot that will track the Krabby Patty formula down by destroying everything in sight. Unfortunately for Plankton, the bot turns on him. The robot flips a switch, creating more of it. The robots then run amok in Bikini Bottom, with camera showing them invading Residential Bikini Bottom.

TO BE CONTINUED...

SB and Patrick go to Delfino Plaza and get eaten at one of the finest Delfino Plana restaurants by Toadsworth and Mario because they are hungree af , at least thats what happens if u die
the goal is for sb and patrick to tri to swim to noki bay but they will prbs die becuz the game will be very hard :sbthumbs:

I'd like a really good SpongeBob driving game... maybe a SB version of The Simpsons: Hit & Run (which for those of you who don't know is an AMAZING licensed GTA clone)

You could drive the Patty Wagon, Boaty, Patrick's car from Driven to Tears, the Invisible Boatmobile, Sandy's car from To Save a Squirrel, the car the villains use in MM&BB V, etc.
There could be missions where you have to race Mr. Krabs to the Krusty Krab, destroy Plankton's car, do a driving test at the boating school... stuff like that

I don't see SpongeBob in a GTA clone, but it would be fun. Another driving game would be cool, even another Boating Bash would be alright.

The real thing we need is a BFBB remake for new consoles.
Wouldn't you rather have something new? I mean, woah unpopular opinion here, but a new game would be much better than slapping more polygons on and charging $60. (Nintendo seems to be a culprit with this, looking at you Twilight Princess HD.) Would it be exactly the same? No, but that isn't a bad thing.

Also, I really should continue with my idea, but I've been drawing it more than writing it. Perhaps I'll post some of the things I drew.

Well, BFBB was one of the best SpongeBob games and it got players choice, greatest hits, platinum hits all those things. But if something new, I would like it to follow in the footsteps of BFBB, a simple then hard game.

Something akin to the old-school games for the Atari 2600 or the NES.
That'd be pretty good, as Nick had released similar games on their site. It'd be cool as like a $10 eShop game. Don't think you'd be able to stretch it out as far as a full game like Shovel Knight.

How about this: a Krusty Krab management game. And not like Diner Dash, I'm thinking more in the line of casual business management. This going to be a long one *pulls out projector from hammerspace and plays powerpoint*

For gameplay, it's not going to be overtly complicated like average business sim, something that can still be accessible to children.

Employees
There's going to be moderately sized choice of employees to hire, all of them characters from the show. You star with SpongeBob and Squidward (why Mr Krabs isn't included will be explained later), then you can hire. Each have different skills that suits them only for certain jobs, as well as quirls and special ability. There are three jobs in the restaurant: cook, cashier, and cleaner (all start with C ;) ).

Cook obviously cooks, they also serves food to the table. Cashier handles costumers orders of course, they also handles extra requests from the costumers, like extra food or sauce. Finally, there's the cleaner. Basically, they clean everything. Whether it's dirty floor, spilled drink, clogged toilet, they got it. They also restocks amenities (explain that latrr)

Some example of employees hireable
-SpongeBob: Cook. No special ability, but other characters receive special boost near him.
-Squidward: Cashier. May randomly sleeps at work, but costumers sometimes will abise him and gains extra happiness (yes, Squid abuse as a gameplay feature, lol)
-Patrick: Cleaner. Sloppy and sometimes will cause more mess instead of cleaning them. But when SpongeBob near, he will clean faster instead.
-Gary: Cashier (cause he's smart). Slower when taking extra requests (cause he's a snail), but when near SpongeBob he works faster in cashier.
-Sandy: Cook. When she's working, research on new food item will be increased faster (I'll explain research later).
-And more...

Not all characters will be available at a time, sometimes you can hire lots of characters but sometimes you can only use SpongeBob, Squidward, and Patrick.

Building Management
There will be three basic types of furnitures: Costumer items, Work equipments, and Amenities.

Costumers items are items the costumers used directly. Like tables, seat, or toilet. Each furnitures have different "atmosphere points" with them, and if you group furnitures together with similar atmosphere point, you will create a certain atmosphere in the area. Different costumers will prefer different atmospherse.(yes, this is a reference to Patty Hype)

Work equipment are furnitures used by the employees to do their work. Cook for example have grill, fryer, soda machine, d other stuff. Cashier have... cash register counter. Cleaner have broom closet. There are different equipments that you can pit, each with different prices and bonuses. Equipment might broke down during use, and you must pay to fix them.

Amenities are stuff that is not mandatory to put in the restaurant, but will ad bonuses. These includes salad bar, sauce counter, soda refill station, skill crane, or other stuff. After certain amount of uses, these amenities will ran out, and must be refilled by cleaners.

And besides furniture, you can add passive decoration items. Different decoration item grants boost to various types of atmosphere points. There are also furnitures that add other passive bonus. Like for example TV makes the costumers surrounding it more patient.

You can also buy change the wall or floor of the Krusty Krab. They can either provides restaurant-wide atmosphere boost, or add bonuses, like make your employees move faster.

Restaurant Management
Technically, the employee management above is a huge aspect of the restaurant management gameplay, so we're going to talk about other stuff.

First, menu management. Here, you can change what's available in the menu each day. There are wide choice of food types to put in the menu. Popularity of certain food changes each day, so you must continuously rotate your menu or put in new foods.

You can research new type of foods using research points. Research points are gained randomly generated from your employees or costumers, but cooks will gain research point faster than other employee types. At the start you only have Krabby Patty, kelp fries, and coral cola. But you unlock a wide variety of foods later on. From pretty patties to sa-lad.

Finally, there's advertisement. Adverts will attracts different number and types of costumers depending on the ad type. Ads you can put ranges from newspapers classified ad to half time show.

Costumer
The most important part of your restaurant, obviously. There different types of costumers that will came to your restaurant, each with different quirks.

-Regular: Basically characters from the show, mostly just background characters like Fred or Tom. They have consistent choice of food and atmosphere. They're not affected by ad, and appears randomly each day.
-Normal: "Generic" fish costumers. Have no preference in atmosphere, and will order anything available on the menu.
-Family: Family of fish complete with childrens. Prefer cozy atmosphere, and wil sometimes leave a huge mess. Childrens use amenities like arcades and slide. Adults orders normal food, while childrens buys child meal with toys.
-Slobs: Fat starfishes like Patrick. They prefer cozy atmosphere but hates posh. They order big value meals, and lots. The downside is they eats slowly.
-Teens: Like, totally coral costumers... ugh sorry. They go with cozy and posh. They order small sized foods, usually side dishes like fries or sa-lads. They usually came in large group. But eats quickly.
-Cheapskates: Krabs, I mean crabs. Instead of atmosphere, they prefer sitting next to free amenities. They order the cheapest food, and use lots of amenities (especially the free salad bar and sauce counter). Good thing is they eats fast.
-Socialites: High-class squids and octopuses like Squilliam. Only want to sit in posh, and won't even come if there's no spot with posh atmosphere. Orders expensive foods and demands lots of extra requests.

Technical Stuff
The game would be in 2D graphic with isometric view. It would somewhat minimalistic, so it have it's own charm and can be played on old PCs. I imagine the game can be played mobile too. The OST is going to be simplistic ukulele music with catchy beats.

Plot
I'll write this later. If you have any idea you can post it.

Maybe a platformer among the lines of the Heavy Iron or Blitz games.(I would list the Behavior ones, but those have a less than stellar reputation, most likely due to Activison rushing them for cash) If not, than maybe a Universal Studios remake of Kinect Disneyland, with a couple SpongeBob characters and quests.

So, Restaurant Empire: Spongebob Edition?

A game like that would be pretty good, i'm a guy who likes to program in many kinds of languages and i'd like to make a game with your idea in mind in unity or something. The game should have a day time cycle and have it know what day your currently on, make it where spongebob has different expressions like if he stayed up he'd be tired for a while or character dialog can be effected by the weather and have funny things to say before spongebob gets his mission. if we could we could get some people to do character impressions for dialog if that's something we can do. so if anyone agrees with this concept of a really good game contact me by email: evanwilliamjames@gmail.com and we can discuss the games development.

also this is my somewhat unfinished idea for a spongebob game, using certain plot holes in revenge of the flying dutchmen and battle for bikini bottom let me get this out.

after beating the flying dutchmen spongebob broke the bottle and the flying dutchmen was free but was plotting for a while, alongside the fact that they never destroyed the duplicationtron3000 in bfbb the flyingdutchmen meets up with plankton in the chumb bucket where they discuses plans to take over bikini bottom so they call up a bunch of super villeins like the dirty bubble, manray, etc and they get manray to turn the obey switch on so plankton can finally take control of his own robots, meanwhile spongebob and patrick are watching tv when a breaking news session occurs where ancher fish says that bikini bottom is again over taken by robots and spongebob and patrick realize that they need to save bikini bottom.

now the game would be fairly structured with an open world aspect, driving, combat, etc. now missions will be started by talking to sertain mission giving npcs, getting money after finsihing missions, being able to buy cars like the ones brickspongebob2015 mentioned, having a daytime cycle and keeping track of the days going by, making it where as what i said before characters having different expressions effected when talking to someone.

that's all i've got for the moment tell me if you like this crazy idea for a video game.
