I thought it would be a nice idea for a thread, tropes are writing trends in Spongebob, plot devices used more than twice. Not necessarily often, but if there's at least three episodes with that trend i guess it's worth mentioning, examples:

  • Squidward Torture.
  • Episode centering around Patrick being a Jerk.
  • Episode centering around Mr. Krabs being cheap.
  • Episode starting in the Krusty Krab.

I'll start the thread with a writing trend that is quite nice: one character dives into a weird lifestyle and at least two of their friends team up to try and help. Seen in episodes like:

  1. Nature Pants - An early version of the trope with Spongebob becoming all "natural", his friends try to help yes, but it's ultimately Spongebob who realizes himself that he should come back.
  2. Karate Choppers - Spongebob becomes paranoid about karate, Krabs warn him to stop and in the end, ends up firing him because of his behavior, Sandy helps Spongebob to get his job back explaining to Krabs that it was actually her fault.
  3. Squidville - Another early version of the trope, like Spongebob in Nature Pants, Squidward realizes by himself that status quo is God.
  4. I Had an Accident - First installment of the trope in its definitive form: Sandy and Patrick actively try to make Spongebob get out of his paranoia and end up being hurt because of it, which makes Spongebob overcome his fear of the outside.
  5. Rule of Dumb - Nobody tries to necessarily help Patrick but they nevertheless tell him how awful he became (you know, before he realized that he didn't need to be king to be awful lol).
  6. To Love a Patty - Another classic, Spongebob... falls in love with a Krabby Patty... and his friends team up to try and tell him how weird that is.
  7. What Ever Happened to SpongeBob? - You guys know what happens, Spongebob has amnesia and his friends drop by to try and make him remember his life as Spongebob.
  8. Mimic Madness - A very recent example, all of the main characters team up to help Spongebob quit his "mimic addiction".

And there are many other examples.

Squidward gets obsessed with something SpongeBob is doing or doing well (Examples: The Paper, Idiot Box, Snowball Effect, Skill Crane)
