What's the difference between watching SpongeBob on DVD, and TV? How do the colors, voices, picture quality compare and contrast from each other. By the way, by DVD's, I mean the stand alone Season DVD's, but any DVD is fine though.
Do the digital releases have a crisper quality than the broadcast versions, or is it the other way around.

Also, which do you prefer?

Merry Christmas also! :)

DVDs, especially since I don't have Nickelodeon anymore.
And I can also watch it whenever I want.

Quality-wise, I'd also go for DVD because you aren't interrupted by commercials, meaning you get to watch a clean streak of episodes...if that makes sense.

if I use TV or DVD I actually usually watch the really old DVD's with like 10 episodes from 2002 - 2004 instead of the season boxsets because my season 1 disc is badly scratched and for some reason season 2 has much better color quality on the older DVDs?
but boxsets are good too
TV just kinda sucks all around, though it does have a nostalgic quality to it

TV. I don't have SpongeBob CDs that much. Sorry. I only wait for new SpongeBob specials and marathons to be aired on Philippine TV.

DVD by far. Nick uses their old tapes from years ago, and you can definitely see that. Look at the episode Procrastination whenever you see it air on the station.

televison because tv is better than dvds for one no scratching the commercials give you bathroom breaks and you can watch new episodes when they air on tv

Take care of your disks and pause the video for bathroom breaks.
it takes to much work to pause plus you have to worry about siblings scratching them :patgross:

DVDs have noticeably better quality.

Did all of the SpongeBob Seasons and episodes get remastered/ upscaled in HD for the DVD's, or are they in SD (Standard Definition)quality? Also did they get rid of the strange moving VHS looking dots from the TV when making the digital releases?

Edit: If you could do so, could you post some comparisons of the DVD releases and the broadcast television versions if possible? Thanks in advance. :)

I prefer watching on the DVDs, because they are definitely higher quality, at least in the visual department, especially for the old episodes. They must have been remastered or something.

This post is going to be pretty long as I have a LOT to say so... please bare with me.

So from what everyone has been saying, the DVD's have better picture quality, so that's good, as I've said, I would like a screenshot of the DVD's to see just how good the picture quality is since I don't have them, although after researching, the bad thing about the DVD's is that SpongeBob's color isn't yellow in Season 2 like on TV, it's a pale cream yellow. But maybe for the rest of the Seasons it's fine.

So from the info I've gathered people's posts, and also browsing, both DVD's and TV have pros and cons, in terms of watching The Sponge.

Television

Pros-
> More nostalgic to look at.
> Sponge is yellow in Season 2
> Has good quality on Nick's HD channel even if not as high def as the DVD's, but hey, at least they look MILES better than what's on WatchCartoonOnline and any other online source as the TV versions look sharper. Compare below. Credit to Just Sponge for the top image on each pair.

Cons-
>Not as high quality as the DVD's
>Less convenient to choose an episode you want to watch as Nickelodeon airs episodes at random.
>Procrastination/I'm with Stupid are washed out in terms of color tint.
>Some of the older episodes have weird Moving VHS looking dots.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

DVD's

Pros-
>Remastered.
>Convinient to choose the episode you want to watch.
>You are able to watch as many episodes as you want instead of waiting the next day to watch more SB.
>Easy to rip episodes from here unlike TV.

Cons-
> SB's color is very pale in Season 2 episodes.
>DVD's cost, GASP!, money?
:krabso:
>If the DVD gets scratched, or you lose it, it's over...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you agree with the pros and cons comparison or is your opinion different? Post below :)

Phew! :planktonnervous:

I like DVDs a lot more, for more personal reason.
On DVDs usually I can change the language of audio. I prefer to watch SpongeBob in english lately.
Not to mention better quality of video and bonus features.

Did all of the SpongeBob Seasons and episodes get remastered/ upscaled in HD for the DVD's, or are they in SD (Standard Definition)quality?
Dvds literally can't display high definition video unless you count 480p as HD. It's gonna be in SD no matter what you get. I haven't compared myself but the print is probably cleaner on the DVD than on TV.
