This thing is to determine which track is better.
I have a feeling I already know, but that's all I'm going to say right now.

You may post your opinions below. Let's begin.

Palmtree Panic

Present
Japanese: This soundtrack is an utterly FANTASTIC way to begin the Sonic CD stages. From the cheering kids to the AMAZINGLY upbeat tune. What else can I say? 10/10, all around!

North American: This one reminds me of Yoshi's Island. I really like the vibe. It's not as exciting as the Japanese version, but it's just as good in it's own way. 10/10

Tie

Bad Future
Japanese: This soundtrack is yet again mind-blowingly PHENOMENAL! It is mind-numbingly, surprisingly, mind-blowingly, blows-you-out-of-the-waterly, phenomenally, perfectly and unbelievably perfect! Even though it's not too suitable for the scenery, that doesn't mean anything because it is still absolutely PERFECT on it's own. It's a masterpiece and like most of the Japanese soundtracks, it is one of the absolute BEST things I have heard of all time. I can't not say 10/10.

North American: This one does an excellent job at fitting the scenery. It's a desolate wasteland and the music does not tell a lie. At first I couldn't tell whether it was C-major or F-minor, and if you're looking at it like that then it's slightly too upbeat. However, in reality, after listening closer and re-listening I discovered that it's actually G flat. So that really fits the scenery. I really like how fitting this is for the setting and I especially like the middle beat. If I had one complaint it'd just be that the very beginning is a little bland. This gets a 9/10. It does a very good job but the Japanese version blew me out of the water.

So that's why Japanese gets the win this time around.

Good Future
Japanese: Holy, holy, holy, is this one great. It is no less better than the other tracks in this round. It is like the Present only slightly more crazy. This really suits the scenery UNBELIEVABLY well. So of course, this one is definitely nothing BUT a 10/10.

North American: This one is good. My gripe with it is just that it sounds somewhat bland in some sections. I'd give it an 9/10 again.

JP: 2
NA: 0

OVERALL:
JP: This was a fantastic music selection for the round overall. I absolutely cannot find any flaws with ANY of these whatsoever. All three music selections are perfect and mind-blowingly exceptional. The Past music is on both versions and it gets a 10/10.

NA: Calculating all three music scores, I ended up with a 9.25/10 which is pretty good for the US to kick off with the levels. It's better than I expected. Long story short though, the Japanese got a 10/10 so this one is slightly inferior. However it is still a good way to begin the US stages.

JP: 10/10
NA: 9.25/10

JP wins Palmtree Panic.

Collision Chaos
Present
Japanese: This is a phenomenal way to kick off the trippiest zone in the game. Even as a tune by itself it's great to bob your head to. This definitely gets a 10/10.

North American: This one is still good. This one usually gets hate for being "too dark" so to speak. But I disagree. It sounds fairly fitting and suitable for the atmosphere. My gripe with it is just that it can be bland at times. It gets a 7/10.

JP: 3
NA: 0

Bad Future
Japanese: This one is great as a tune by itself. I really genuinely enjoyed this tune, as usual. Expect a lot of gushing to come up for the Japanese soundtrack because spoilers, you will probably not see a lot of flak. Even though it's not suitable for the setting, it's still great on it's own. 10/10

North American: Meh, this one sounds more like the present tune. It's not very catchy and the only dark sections are the very beginning and very ends. Not that I hate it, it just sounds not dark enough, except this time it isn't particularly great on it's own either. It's not bad, but it gets a 5/10. It's pretty clear of which one wins this round.

JP: 4
NA: 0

Good Future
Japanese: Once again I have been blown out of the water. This one is beautiful and it is once again perfect. It fits the scenery so well, just like every Good Future on the Japanese side of things. So, of course, it is very blatantly clear that I am rating it an absolutely perfect 10/10.

North American: I guess it's suitable for a Good Future however this one is rather bland like last time. Again, I don't hate it but I was kind of expecting for it to be more beautiful and atmospheric. But I'll go ahead and give it a 6.5/10.

JP: 5
NA: 0

OVERALL:
JP: Once again I gave a perfect 10 on all three of these, so of course it gets an overall score of 10/10. The Past version is a 10 too.

NA: Totaling the three scores up, I ended up with a 6.25 out of 10. Not particularly great but it's not bad. Japanese still wins this stage by a long-shot though.

JP: 10/10
US: 6.25/10

Japanese version wins Collision Chaos.

Tidal Tempest
Present
Japanese: Holy crap, this thing is amazing. Like, seriously. It's beautiful especially for a Present music. I can't say anything else except that this is extremely obvious of being worthy of a perfect 10/10.

North American: This one gives of an early 2000's vibe, which is something I am totally into, being an early 2000's kid myself. Anyways, I really like this. A nice beat and very enjoyable. A 10/10.

Tie

Bad Future
Japanese: Yet again, just fantastic. Really gives off the vibe that you ruined the place and it sucks now. Not much else to say, it is definitely getting a 10/10.

North American: Wow, this one is just as good. It perfectly fits the scenery just like last time. Both of these fit the bad futures very well and the North American version here is definitely better than the previous NA Bad Future (again, that track wasn't bad, it was just lacking). Both of these get a 10/10.

Tie

Good Future
Japanese: Definitely BEAUTIFUL. It's like the Present all over again except it's slightly more twinkly. OF COURSE this thing gets a 10/10.

North American: 10/10

Tie

OVERALL:
JP: A third time, we have a trilogy of perfect 10s. The Past version gets a 7.5, it's somewhat lacking but I still liked it nonetheless.

NA: Not only do we have two sets of trilogies with perfect 10s, but this round is tied in terms of quality. Plus this is the first time the US gets a perfect 10 for a round.

JP: 10/10
NA: 10/10

Tidal Tempest is a tie overall.

Quartz Quadrant
Present
Japanese: Again, beautiful just like Tidal Tempest present. Very great and I can't give it anything else besides a 10/10.

North American: This one is a bit crazy and not as beautiful. I think it's good enough to get a 7.5/10 though.

JP: 6
NA: 0

Bad Future
Japanese: This one is dark, man. It once again tells you how much you've screwed up with the distorted remix of the present, the screaming, and all that stuff. It's both epicly suitable and epic overall. 10/10

North American: This one isn't as dark, but rather just half-depressing and half-neutral. It'd work better for Eggman's base. The rock chords are somewhat unnecessary too. Not saying I don't like it, it's just a bit unsuitable. I was expecting something darker and downbeat. I will give it points for being somewhat depressing enough though. 6/10.

JP: 7
US: 0

Good Future
Japanese: This is beautiful and epic. The sound effects are an amazing effect. So it's a 10/10.

North American: This one debatably isn't as beautiful, but it's still pretty nice. Definitely more beautiful than the previous three North American good futures. 10/10

Tie

OVERALL:
Japanese: Once again all three got a 10 so I don't have much to say. I really enjoyed the Past version and give it a 10 too.

North American: Totaling all three up, I got a 7.75 out of 10. Not as good as Tidal Tempest but still good nonetheless.

JP: 10/10
US: 7.75/10

JP wins Quartz Quadrant overall.

Wacky Workbench
Present
Japanese: I really genuinely enjoy the tone of this one. It really does provide the industrial theme. 10/10

North American: I'm just going to go out and say this: this is the best track on the North American side of things. It is really good to jam out to even though it's not industrial. 10/10

Tie

Bad Future
Japanese: Now this thing is really epicly suitable for the place. You're in a factory run by Eggman and the music couldn't be more suitable. 10/10

North American: Unfortunately, I didn't like this thing. It is not at ALL suitable for a Bad Future. In fact it almost sounds like a good future. It doesn't fit at all and as a tune by itself it's still annoying. Unfortunately the American Good Future side of things isn't good either. I don't like this track and I give it a 1/10, only for the beginning beat and the gongs in the middle, but those things don't even fit the location themselves. Ugh. I think it's blatantly clearly obvious as to which of these wins here.

JP: 8
NA: 0

Good Future
Japanese: Once again, it's beautiful. 10/10

North American: Ugh, this is the exact same case except this time it sounds like a Bad Future. I think they should've been switched around and maybe I'd hate these less. Except this one is even worse than the Bad Future. It's just a bunch of hissing and clanging. Man, this thing is awful. I don't have much good to say here. 0/10

JP: 9
NA: 0

OVERALL:
Japanese: Once again, we get a 10 on all three. The Past music I give a 5/10. It's not bad but it's somewhat grating when you put your mind to it.

North American: Well, the Present was amazing, but both of the futures are without a doubt the worst of either track. I totaled it up and got a 5/10. Very polarizing results right here, because the best piece on the NA track tragically shares a stage with the other two abominations.

JP: 10/10
NA: 5/10

JP wins Wacky Workbench (obviously, it's such a shame the best piece on the NA side of things was paired up with two insults to Video Game Music. But I'm beating the dead horse by now)

Stardust Speedway
Present
Japanese: This is yet again amazing. The beats are great and has that urban vibe to it. 10/10

North American: Also great. Very atmospheric. 10/10

Tie

Bad Future
Japanese: Well....this one isn't bad, it's just kinda....eh. I thought long and hard about this thing, and coming to a conclusion, I have to give a 6/10. The record scratches are great and if it weren't for them, then this thing would get a 5/10. I don't think it's bad it's just too upbeat for a Bad Future and as a tune on it's on it gets slightly grating in the second half. But don't worry guys, I don't think the Japanese track gets any worse than this.

North American: This one is also unsuitable for a Bad Future. It'd fit better as a Present music. As a tune on it's own it's decent but as a Bad Future, it just doesn't fit. 6/10.

Tie

Good Future
Japanese: Thankfully we're back to 10/10s. Beautiful and atmospheric all around.

North American: 7/10, it's not as beautiful but it suits the scenery fairly well.

JP: 10
NA: 0

OVERALL:
Japanese: Two perfect 10's and only one 6/10. Averaging these up I get an 8.5/10. Again, the Bad Future here doesn't suck by any means, it's just unsuitable. The record scratches in the first half are what save it from being any lower.

North American: Averaging the trilogy up, my results were an 8/10. The Japanese wins this stage but just by a hair.

JP wins Stardust Speedway (by a hair)

Metallic Madness
Present
Japanese: This one I somewhat enjoy. The problems are just that sometimes it can get a bit too crazy in the second quarter. But the other three quarters are all fantastic. 9/10

North American: This one is good. It's pretty enjoyable with the beats and stuff. I give it a 7/10. It's only problems are just that it's a bit bland.

Bad Future
Japanese: Very good. The only things wrong here are just that it is a bit more crazy than dark like how a Bad Future should be. But ignoring that, 9.5/10. The vocals and laughter are an amazing touch.

North American: This one fits the scenery more. Although, it has none of the amazing touches that the Japanese version managed to pull off. It can be a bit too scary for it's own good sometimes too. But it is still more suitable for the scenery than ever. 8/10

Good Future
Japanese: Again, epic. I just love it. Perfect for the final good future. An extremely obvious perfect 10/10 right here.

North American: Meh, it's bland. Not the worst but just bland. Kinda sounds like a Present music. Not bad, but just somewhat disappointing. I expected more from this thing. 5/10

JP: 13
NA: 0

OVERALL:
Japanese: 9.5/10 was my average.

North American: 6.75/10 was my average here. The Good Future music isn't bad, just somewhat bland is all.

Japanese wins Metallic Madness.

Boss Battle
Japanese: It is a very great track and suits Eggman's cheesiness very well. 10/10

North American: Oh boy, is this thing just CREEPY. Not bad but just creepy at it's finest. Not much to say here, it's just creepy. 5/10

Final Boss
Japanese: Epic for a final boss. Perfect vocals and vice versa. 10/10

North American: This thing is pretty much just an even creepier version of the normal boss, so I don't really have anything to say. 4/10

JP: 15
US: 0

Special Stage
Japanese: I genuinely love this thing. It suits the trippiness of the level very well. 10/10

North American: Very good, this also suits the psychedelic vibe that the Special Stages give off. 10/10

Tie

Level Clear
Japanese: I think this one is good, it gives off a really cool vibe. 10/10

North American: This thing goes on for too long. It doesn't suck, but it goes on for a bit too long. 4.5/10

Super Sneakers
Japanese: Really cool, I really love this. Just a cool little thing that represents the epicness of Sonic CD's Japanese soundtrack. 10/10

North American: The guitar wears thin by this point. I still genuinely enjoy this thing though. 10/10

Invincibility
Japanese: This thing blew me out of the water. An epic little tune that sums up the epicness of Sonic the Hedgehog. 10/10

North American: This one was just okay. It doesn't sound as epic as I thought it would turn out, but it's okay. 5/10

Game Over
Japanese: Really cool, even though it's not all that dark. 10/10

North American: I'm one of those guys out there that likes how this thing turned out. Why? Because it's suitable for a game over. Although it is kind of scary. 8/10

JP: 21
NA: 0

Intros and Outros
Japanese: This is it guys, the last one. I genuinely enjoyed both the intros and outros. They have that epic beautiful vibe that a majority of the game has. 10/10

North American: This one I enjoyed too. It also captures the vibe that Sonic CD and other games give off. I give it a 10/10.

Tie

The Japanese side of things won 21 to 0 for the North American side of things. Japanese wins.

And that was my comparisons.

Adding the Japanese up, I got a 9.75/10, and that sounds about right. A majority of the tracks here are mind blowingly AMAZING!!!!!!! The worst was SS BF, but I really thought that even that one was decent. Overall, the Japanese version is a great track and I highly recommend you play on THIS version.

Adding up the North American side of things, the soundtrack gets a solid 7/10. The worst is definitely the Wacky Workbench futures, and the best was ironically the stage's present piece. Overall the Japanese wins but the North American one is solid too.

This was a fun experience. In the comments below, feel free to comment your comparisons. See you later.

Okay. I guess the music is okay.

Edit: Because I know how rabid people can be

Even though this is what blogs are for? I admit, I was a bit rude in the thanksgiving era, but you don't need to make this a topic.

Interesting opinions. For me, it's Japanese overall. There is a bit more to discover and the soundtrack is kickbutt.
The NA and JP versions of Sonic CD are both epic games.

I agree. NA is solid but JP one out.

Sonic CD, Sonic 2 for Game Gear, and Sonic Adventures on Dreamcast are the best in the series, imo.

Heard one magazine gave the foreign version of the game 30 points higher than the US version

Both soundtracks are pretty good, but the Japanese/European soundtrack fits the game more since its more action packed in general. The North American soundtrack is more atmospheric but not necessarily a track for a Sonic game back then.
