Frozen Cephalopod
I'm not sure if this has been shared on the forum before (I think there might've been a thread related to one of the X-Presidents videos back 2015, but I don't remember), but either way, I felt like sharing one of my favorite SNL skits out there. A highly underrated bit that ran from around the mid 90's to the late 2000's, TV Funhouse was an animated skit that often had recurring bits, from The Ambiguously Gay Duo to Fun with Real Audio, TV Funhouse was created by then-SNL writer Robert Smigel (The man behind Triumph the Insult Comic Dog).
Probably my favorite of the TV Funhouse shorts were the X President bits. A hilarious parody of (What I can assume would be the Justice League?) superhero groups, the X Presidents featured former presidents having superpowers, often dealing with problems/threats to the United States. The bits featured Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Gerald Ford, and George H.W Bush as the X Presidents, and featured some appearances by Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. A total of five X President cartoons came out during the span of 1997-2004. Probably the most interesting of the bits is the third one, released on March 8th, 2003 (Just a little over a week before the Iraq Invasion began). It featured the X Presidents trying to make a propaganda cartoon for going to war with Iraq (Reminiscent of the war-time Looney Tunes cartoons from the 40s).
In it, they get none other than SpongeBob SquarePants to present the propaganda short, much to SpongeBob's dismay. While I usually wouldn't care that much if SpongeBob is referenced or used in some kind of parody bit, but the main reason I wanted to share this is that Tom Kenny actually voices SpongeBob in this bit. Yeah! Tom Kenny actually plays SpongeBob in this SNL skit, and it's one of the weirdest, and funniest SpongeBob-related thing I've ever seen. It's so surreal hearing SpongeBob say "Saddam Hussein". I'm not going to spoil the ending to the short, but it's pretty funny if you ask me. For those who have never seen the short before, I highly recommend checking it out, it's hilarious.
(Obviously, being that it's SNL, prepare for some more adult humor in this short. Still, it's less raunchy than Modern Family Guy, and doesn't have as much language as South Park. Still, I do recommend it, but viewer discretion is advised)
