Attention all book-lovers!
This is an official (I hope) SBM Book Club which anyone can join!
I'm hoping to take first term and maybe be President? Um of the club? Yeah this is doomed. :plankx:
Anyway, each term will last 3 weeks, and the first book will be The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists by Gideon Defoe which is from one of the funniest book series ever (in my opinion) and one of my personal favourites.

While I agree with you that this probably won't get much of anywhere, I appreciate that you posted it anyway.

In this day and age of decreased literacy, it's all the more important that book lovers stick together.

And when I say book lovers, I mean actual, PHYSICAL, hold-it-in-your-hand-and-turn-the-pages-manually book lovers. None of that Kindle junk.

Reading books on a tablet is really stupid. When I want to get a book, I get a REAL book. I can feel the paper. I can smell the ink. That's the real kind of book everyone should get, not some stupid tablet that hurts your eyes.

Ah, yes, I love the smell of a book. There's a reason they put Starbucks in bookstores: the smell of coffee and the smell of fresh books go together wonderfully. They intermix with each other. I'm serious, if you buy a book from a bookstore with a Starbucks in it, sometimes you can take it home and you can still smell the coffee in it. I love that.

Hold on, you guys agree books smell great? I love this site.
Of course! Opening a book is an incredibly aromatic experience.

Do you prefer the smell of old books or new books?
Both. They each smell different, but I enjoy them both equally. Besides, even books that are neither new nor old will have some smell to them, I find.

And magazines too, and newspapers, any paper with ink on it all smell different and they all smell nice. (My parents thought I was crazy for talking about this in the car every day... I guess I'm a nerd? (Which is a good thing?))
EDIT: The other day (I'm not THAT crazy :rolls eyes:)

This probably won't get very far, but how about we try it?

I don't know man. An e-reader is highly convenient. Books are cheaper, I can whip it out anytime, mine is backlighted so I can read in the dark, I can go hiking into the forest with it,or on car rides since its small, and I don't have to go very far to buy a new book. That's cool you guys have a strong preference for physical books, but I don't really care either way because I can enjoy a book regardless if its a physical or digital copy.

Anyways this book club seems cool. Good luck.

Preach it, buddy!

You always have to disagree, don't you? :P

I'm going to have to agree with him; an e-book reader basically lets you carry around a whole bookshelf with you wherever you go. It's pretty convenient because you have more options. Also good for people who tend to pick up multiple books at a time.

Also, do works of interactive fiction count as books
The world needs more of those

I understand your point but when the book you want is no where to be found, even amazon, but it's available for download on kindle…yeah… :)
