The Netherlands also had their yellow carpet premiere this weekend, and I found a few reactions. Remember to treat positive comments with as much skepticism as negative ones, though.
  • ontertussen.nl - "The film itself? Definitely recommended if you love animated films and dry humor. But don't forget that SpongeBob is for children first and foremost."
  • trotsevaders.nl - Summary: 5 stars - "Beautiful 3D animation film heartily recommend heartily for a family outing or children's party!" (Go to website for his more detailed review.)
A positive reaction to the Spanish premiere:Edited to add: And a negative one. :(I don't know what to think. These views are very polarizing.

Also, somebody posted this shot of the credits on Tumblr:

Well, that's sorta what the first movie was. So I'm still exited.

Hah! Those credits seem like the ones where the characters are gonna pop onto the screen and do their thing :d

The reviews saying "It's for kids anyway" are kinda putting me on edge.

It's not the kind of comment I want to hear. When people dismiss a movie or try to excuse its flaws because it's for kids it implies that it's not a good movie but who cares as long as it shuts kids up for 90 minutes. SpongeBob first got popular because it appealed to everybody, not just children, so this movie should be aiming for that same wide appeal.

Not everyone enjoys it, though. Some people just aren't that big of fans of even the best cartoons and there are a lot of people who don't even like the classic episodes so, it really depends on who it's coming from.

My older brother told me once that he had a history teacher once who was a big SpongeBob fan and usually associated his teachings with SpongeBob quotes. He didn't tell me his age, but I think it's between age 30 and 50. So I'm pretty sure SpongeBob is for all ages.

I am worried about people being disappointed that the plot is actually not what Paramount makes it out to be. There may be a number of people who are worried that it'll be another Smurfs, and then relieved to see it's mostly 2D. But Paramount's terrible marketing is making this film look completely different to what it's supposed to be

Not to mention those who pay extra for the 3D glasses, only to find only about 25 minutes is in 3D

But so far the reaction is mostly positive, and somewhat a similar reaction to the first movie, so that's promising

That's not how 3D glasses work. P: You can make 2D movies that use stereoscopic effects. The problems start when you take something that was never meant to be stereoscopic and make it 3D (Mostly happens with re-releases, not new films.) or just process the effects poorly/quickly.

The 2D scenes also have the 3D in them and Vincent Waller says they look amazing. https://twitter.com/VincentWaller72/status/547433521032085504

Point taken, but the rest of what I mentioned still concerns me :P

Even if it does end up getting negative reviews, I'm still gonna go check it out to judge for myself, you never know.

Another Dutch review, which I think is mostly positive but it's hard to tell from the bad Google translation.

SpongeBob 3D: Pleasant, insane assault on the senses
It's just telling about the characters, and bragging about Hollywood. They also say that the Dutch version is better than the original, lol.

Edit: It's just telling about the plot and the characters (satirical), and they say that the first movie is better than this one.

Yet another Dutch review.

2/5 stars - "Parents, be warned".
They criticize the fact that it's a 3D release despite being mostly 2D, Antonio Banderas' "laughable" performance, and the "toe-curling and bland" CG scenes but say that outside of the failed trip ashore it still has a few funny moments and doesn't take itself too seriously.

That's the kind of thing I'm worried about people thinking when watching the movie

At least the review wasn't completely negative though
