Does anyone in here know and play the strategy game Reversi/Othello?

Well, I do, and I started to get pretty good at it, too.

Here are the rules, plus some basic strategies- http://www.yourturnmyturn.com/rules/reversi.php

Basically, the moves are alternating between black and white, and at each turn, the player has to flip the other one's disks to his color by 'flanking' them between his own disks. The winner is the one that has the most disks by the end of the game. It's very simple, but there are a lot of complex scenarios that raise from it.

So.. Yeah, discuss about the game in here- Your skill level, strategies you use, interesting games you had, etc. I'll try to find interesting games I played in the past and post them here.

Yeah, my cousin taught me this when I was 11 :D I love this game.

Play this so many years ago that I feel old just looking at it. Great game.

There's a multiple version online, if anyone wants to play. You have to sign in as a guest, and enter the lobby. I'm guest 1094529723.

Good game :D
I was 99% sure it was you, but I couldn't ask because somehow the chat wouldn't work O.o
We should probably find a way of communication in this. Maybe each one will write his guess name in here?

OK. By the way I haven't played in 5 or 6 years before then :p The last time I think I played that was Clubhouse Games on the DS.

..Time to bump this.

There's this online program, called WZebra, that is really useful for researching Reversi games and enhancing your skill level. The power of the playing computer in that program is ultra powerful and difficult, so it gives you a motivation to keep practicing.

Anyway, to get advantage from the program, whenever I play a game against someone, I record the moves on WZebra. After the game ends, especially if I lose, I can analyze the game and see which moves I did right and which wrong. That's not cheating, btw- The program itself doesn't help me DURING the game, only in the aftermath. The program doesn't directly affect my score in any play at all.

Anyway, anyone want a game? I changed my name there to OhadSBM, so I could easily be recognized.

Here's the graph for the latest game I had (positive score means good for me)-

As you can see, I actually had a slight disadvantage in one move, because I'm weak at openings. But, my opponent made loud moves all of the time, that really lowered his score and got me to a winning situation of 50-14 (I think, because of the graph- I don't remember the rseult of the game itself).

I used to play it a lot.. Until I learned how to trap computer player into losing every time and the novelty then wore off.

Well, now if you make those eyes at me.. that's my weak spot!

Well, so the computer used to at least make very predictable moves. I'll look it up really quick and get back to you when I remember it? But, it won't work on real players; it solely depends on the predictability of the AI.

Huh, looks like I don't have the game on my computer, and currently only have Internet on my phone (the DSL's being a barnacle head), so... It might take a bit before I can explain the how's.
