Regarding the Climax of Dying for Pie

During the sunset scene when they're building up SpongeBob's death, he says that something dropped into his lower intestine, like Mr. Krabs described. However, we find out that SpongeBob actually didn't eat the pie. So what was it that dropped into his intestine? I'm not sure if it's an oversight or just some point I'm missing, but it kinda bothers me.
 
Also, after Squidward and Mr. Krabs discover the pie is missing, Spongebob walks in and licks his fingers, suggesting that he ate something.

I think it could have been another pie. When he says "Oh, you mean this pie?" It could be implying that he had another pie.
 
Some weird concoction he had for lunch that day, I'm guessing. He's a frycook. He probably experiented in the kitchen, made something weird, and ate it.

Yeah. Maybe he had pie that day for lunch. I wouldn't put it past him; he a dude who loves his sweets.
 
Now that I think about it, that's kind of a crazy plothole. It doesn't matter though.
 
It was probably just a coincidence, just like how said that if he were to die due to the carelessness of a friend at that moment, it would be ok. He didn't know about the pie when he said that either. Or maybe he just ate a different pie earlier :P
 
How does the pie survive an explosion that blew out the entire back of the restaurant, anyway...?

And how come a crumb of it can't risk being dropped onto a barrel but the whole thing can be dropped onto Mr. Krabs' desk without detonating...?
 
It's not an oversight or a plot hole. The writers put those things in to make the audience believe that SpongeBob had eaten the pie as well as Squidward. Presumably he ate something that day even though it wasn't the pie, so whatever it is eventually dropped into his intestine. Which is not a thing that anybody normally notices anyway, but it's just a joke to remind us of the imminent danger that SpongeBob is supposedly in.

I wonder what he ate that day lol
 
Maybe he tasted some of Gary's food again and it caused minor stomach upsets.

You know how some people kiss their fingers when they show how much they enjoy consuming or in SpongeBob's case looking at food. I assume that's why he was licking his lips and fingers, that or he had a Krabby Patty as well.
 
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if it was something SpongeBob ate at the Krusty Krab. It's been revealed time after time that the Krabby Patty isn't good for you. Who knows what kind of ingredients are in the secret formula and what it does to the body.
 
Er...plot convenience?

Coulda been something else he ate.

Like snail food...or burger...or....other pie....

I dunno.
