It's...not that good. It's not as funny as the original series and that parole officer guy was a complete jerk. (The stupid backstory about him getting a caged monkey for Christmas that was supposed to make him sympathetic failed to because: 1) What kind of idiot buys an obviously untrained wild animal for a child to keep? 2) Santa (or more likely, his parents) just made a mistake, but this guy doesn't seem to get that and is still pissed off at Christmas and Christmas-enjoying people years after that accident even happened. Get over it, dude! Worst character development ever.) Dan Schneider gives us yet another wonderful portrayal of "foreign peoples" in Zigfee. Also, no offense, Josh, but if you wanted a traditional Christmas, why didn't you bring a crucifix or nativity scene with you? You know, because Christmas is traditionally celebrated as the birth of Jesus Christ? (Maybe "old-fashioned" was more of what he was going for, but Jesus' birth is what forms the basis for the modern holiday we call Christmas.*) Speaking of Josh, he just can't get a break in this movie. Neither can Drake or their parents, for that matter. That's the main problem with this Christmas special: with the characters going to prison, getting arrested, being forced to help out a poor family out for Christmas or else they go back to prison and this parole officer guy trying to foil their plans and throw them in the slammer every chance he can get, this movie is just far too mean-spirited for me to really get into the Christmas spirit. :(
Still, I liked that the Premiere was in a shopping mall, referencing the end of the previous movie, Really Big Shrimp, I really liked the song Drake, Josh and the kids rehearsed for the parade, the ending was nice and Crazy Steve's appearance always gives me a laugh.
So yeah, there a few positives, but the many negatives outweigh it enough for me to throw this special out with the fruitcake. Skip it if you can.
*EDIT: Okay, this technically isn't all that true is Christmas was actually a pagan holiday to start with, but I don't think it was called Christmas then, now was it? :P
