Is there anyone that can replace the voice of Mermaidman?

When the voice of Uncle Iroh died, they just got one of Mako's interns to replace him for Avatar's third season. I'm not sure if Ernest had something like that, but I'm sure they'll think of something.

Well, I was thinking about this for a little while and then I realized that when Mermaid Man appears in a SpongeBob video game, he is often times voiced by either Joe Whyte or Joe Alaskey. I don't know how similar their voices sound to Ernest Borgnine's, but that could be a possible consideration for who would voice the character if he appears in any more episodes.

Yeah, I bet someone can come close to Ernest.

Definitely Joe Alaskey. He did a fantastic job in "Lights, Camera, Pants!" and he's come the closest out of anyone to matching Mermaid Man's voice.
Joe Whyte, not so much.

Hopefully, this doesn't annoy people like SpongeBob's new voice. :/
I haven't been annoyed by SpongeBob's voice changing, it's been a gradual thing though. Mostly because Tom Kenny's been voicing characters that rely on his lower voice.

Neither am I, but a lot of people are. They would be pretty angry if EVIL!! didn't sound, EVIL!! enough.

Again, Joe Alaskey has come the closest. Look up the cutscenes from "Lights, Camera, Pants!" and you'll see what I'm talking about.

They could do an episode where MM has a throat injury and needs vocal cord replacement surgery. :shiftyninja:

That would be... interesting. :xP:

But I feel like they should just retire Mermaidman from SpongeBob. It would be sad, but it wouldn't be the same if there was a new voice actor for Mermaidman. Ernie was special, and nobody could do the "EVIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" like him. =/

It's cliche to say this but I don't feel it would be right to continue the character without his voice, but if they feel they can, I wish them good luck!

Agreed, it's like SpongeBob's voice actor being changed, just no.

Like many people here, I don't think they should replace him at all. I do wonder what's going to happen to Barnacle Boy though, I wonder if they'll still keep him in the show.

What I would like to see, is more of the young Mermaidman and Barnacle Boy (like in the "Back to the Past" episode) with their voices done by Adam West and Burt Ward of the 1966 Batman TV series.
