I want to stop being a "Squidward" and be more of a "SpongeBob" but I don't know how to cultivate an optimistic mindset!

I get tired of being brought down by disappointments and setbacks & would like to know how to erase or unlearn my pessimistic disposition so I can be more optimistic like SpongeBob SquarePants

Optimism is a learned skill

Meaning that it can be created

Even with Spongie himself I bet he didn't start out happy and optimistic when he was first born

He must have learned the skill from his parents or something!

Either that or some horrible tragic event happened in his childhood that forced him to become an optimist

It also works the other way around for Squidward too

His pessimistic outlook must have been learned from his parents

Optimism will help me reach my goals and shake off ALL the nay-sayers to said goals

Also will continuing to watch SpongeBob eventually get me to the point of being able to create, cultivate and maintain an optimistic state of being?

It's ok if your not optimistic all the time negative positivity exists.

Not even SpongeBob SquarePants himself is happy 100% of the time, as proven by MANY episodes!

Spongebob has been shown to lose his cool few times in the series, such as when he thought he got Bubble Bass's order wrong then forgot entirely how to live his own life, or when he destroys The Krusty Krab after forgetting his name in Squilliam Returns, shows not even Spongebob himself is perfect

The psychology of SpongeBob is actually something my autism went to for a while. Optimism is a very important trait in his character.

Look forward and not back. Did someone do something you didn't like? Look forward, rather than looking back. When you look back, you see what they did, and continue to hold some grudge. Look forward from their mistake, and you'll see how it plays out in the end.

Life isn't a book, though. Things happen in the moment. Things will come randomly, rather than printed in stone. You can't always be optimistic about a certain situation immediately, but you can certainly think about it later. This is the only time I say you look back with optimism. Look back to move forward.

Christmas Who? is a good example of his optimism. Though Santa doesn't come to town in time, SpongeBob still hopes for the time he may have left to see Santa. Even when hope is practically lost, SpongeBob is still optimistic. Squidward will tease him for his silly beliefs, but SpongeBob still have just a smidge of hope left that he will one day see Santa. When Squidward pretends to be Santa, SpongeBob is in awe. He held out his hopes until the very end, and then, his dreams were met. He saw Santa Claus.

This is how I understand and study SpongeBob. Take this information as you will.

Practice makes perfect, though the man isn't.

I truly feel in my heart that optimism is the KEY to getting me to where I want to be in my life!

Just like SpongeBob eventually meeting Santa I MUST believe that I will eventually get married and have a good career!!!

Keep believing that and it will have no choice but to manifest into reality

Pressure from people and societal conditioning messed me up

Wait a minute!

I believe I know where SpongeBob's optimism originated from!

In the episode "Truth or Square" it showed SpongeBob SquarePants as a baby watching a commercial for The Krusty Krab

Mr. Krabs said that Krabby Patties extend your lifespan and give you a youthful positive attitude

What I am suggesting is that SpongeBob got his optimistic disposition from eating Krabby Patties!

And Squidward had never eaten a patty, until Just One Bite, where he LOVED it, and we saw him happy. :sbjazz:

There's a book about taking SpongeBob's outlook and applying it to everyday life.. I can't think what the heck it's called right now.

I don't think so, it might be along the lines of Ten Rules to Being an Optimist, but with some sponginess to it. Google is not helping me out. 🤔
