Genndy Tartakovsky No Longer Director Of Popeye

“I was in love with what we were doing, but I think the studio is going through changes and I don’t know if they want to make the 'Popeye' that I want to make.” He went on to say, “Right now, I’m off that project and moving on to the other one we soft-announced, which is Can You Imagine?...It was hard to let Popeye go, but that’s the business.”

There is currently no word if the movie will continue without Tartakovsky.

He is also directing another movie at Sony called Can You Imagine?

Very sad news. I still might see the Popeye movie but it seems like the artistic integrity of the film is in jeopardy. Sigh.

I still don't understand why a studio wouldn't want this. It has the spirit of the Popeye shorts and a unique visual style and humor.
