As Christmas time is nearing, there is one question that is still unanswered to this day and might never be answered: what is spongebob's "embarrassing photo from the Christmas party?" Ok, let's go over some
(And i couldn't supply photos cuz i typed this on my phone.)

that might not be it. 1st is the photo from Christmas who? when squidward takes a photo of spongebob crying (what a donkey). Firstly, this photo is never seen again in the series, and it'd make no sense for Patrick to have it in his box. Squidward woudlnt have given it to him, right? Christmas who came before Secret box though, so i might be wrong.

Second are those images a writer at spongebob posted. Those aren't canon and are only theories. Next.

Next is that lovely photo of spongebob kissing gary. That one circulated the web and many people where fooled by it, but it was just fanart. Nothing much else to say here.

And that's the end of this theory. If you have any ideas or if i missed a popular photo, feel free to tell me.

I don’t think there is actually a definitive photo of what Patrick had in his secret box. I think the line

“Good thing he didn’t PULL the secret string, revealing one embarrassing photo of Spongebob at the Christmas party!

was used purely for comedic purposes, since there is no time that we see Patrick and Spongebob at a Christmas party together. Some people may think that the photo was from “Christmas Who?”, but it wouldn’t make sense because the picture that Squidward took in that episode was not at a Christmas party, even though the photo may have been embarrassing for Spongebob.

Well, there's this...

But given the contents of that photo and the way in which this story's written, it's more of a reference being nailed into our heads. Far too on-the-nose with the reference.

HOWEVER...it could still be a picture of SpongeBob in his underwear and with his headgear - just not this exact image considering Patrick's in it and with the Secret Box. Plus aside from the reference - and ignoring SpongeBob's opening sentence - this could be interpreted as a version made for our viewing. The real one could just be of SpongeBob. TBH I would've preferred that one because the reference would be clever and not just spoon-fed to us.

That's all I got.

(Also the page is from Chuckle And Cringe...I've had this book for years.)

I totally understand where you’re coming from, but I think it’s just a reference. The background suggests that it is a Valentine’s Day Party. And since Patrick already has the box in the picture, and the box already contains the picture, it would be a paradox.

I think everything in the photo is borrowed from something - that's a re-purposed stock image of SpongeBob in his underwear and that background is likely from the end of Bossy Boots if my memory is correct (hence the cutesy heart decor...plus you've got that cupcake thing in the corner). The only thing that isn't borrowed to my knowledge is that image of Patrick, which, yes, makes this reference far too on-the-nose to take literally at surface level.

I feel like, since continuity on the show is so loose, it could pretty much be taken from any point in which Christmas existed in Bikini Bottom (Jellyfishing and Scaredy Pants hint that Christmas had become a typical holiday under the sea). Pardon me if this doesn’t relate to anything, just pointing out that not everything needs to be intricate or reference-heavy.

Honestly I think they want YOU to imagine what is inside the box, and do not want to show a definitive picture or else it would ruin the "fun." And honestly I can't disagree with that. As much as I would like to see it, it would just ruin what we had in mind and who knows it could be lamer than we imagined. I think that that was clever writing and really made you sit on the edge of your seat (when you first saw the episode).

This Embarrassing Christmas Photo is a portroyal of society, when most boys are threatening girls with pictures...
