I thought I'd do a list of theories that are almost universally loathed by Spongebob fans. Feel free to add your own.
1) "I Was A Teenage Gary" Has A Deleted Scene
The theory is that there's a deleted scene from "I Was A Teenage Gary" in which we see Squidward's rather grotesque, horrifying transformation into a snail- and that Nickelodeon is still in possession of the episode's workprint. Some say that we will eventually see the deleted scene in a future DVD release. Until something is confirmed by someone who worked on the show during season one, we will never know. For now, it's just a silly rumor that people are too invested in. For a much more interesting read, look up the production of "The Breakfast Club." The now deceased director had several hours of deleted footage locked away, which may actually surface on a DVD release.
2) Squidward's Suicide
Squidward's Suicide is an internet-based urban legend focusing on an episode of Spongebob Squarepants that was never aired on television, in which Squidward commits suicide (with footage interwoven with photographs of dead children.) The rumor can be easily debunked by anyone who knows anything about how the production of an animated show actually works. The theory is rather notable because it was allegedly referenced in the Spongebob Squarepants episode "Are You Happy Now?" in which Squidward (is believed by the audience to have) attempted suicide twice.
3) Seven Deadly Sins
There's a fan theory that each of the main characters represents one of the deadly sins. I don't think this has been confirmed or denied by anyone who works on the show, but.... it's quite a stretch, and rather silly. Still kinda cool though I guess.
4) Patrick Star Is A Sociopath
The fan theory was started by MrEnter, who unironically claimed in one of his review videos that Patrick is a legitimate, clinical sociopath. The theory sprung up from some reoccuring trends in less-than-savory post-movie episodes, but can easily be debunked by countless other episodes, both pre-and-post movie. Patrick Star is not a sociopath; he's an idiot with a mean streak.
5) "Dumped Bootleg Copy"
There's a lesser-known Creepypasta involving a bootleg VCR cassette (recovered from the dumpster of an abandoned mental hospital) containing a recording of the episode "Dumped." This Creepypasta is the source of this image:
There was never a Spongebob tape that drove someone to mental illness or despair. (Unless it was MrEnter who watched it, then again he's easily susceptible to things such as this.)
6) Paul Tibbitt Is A Sociopath Who Ruined Spongebob On Purpose
...I highly doubt this theory is true. From what I've heard, Paul Tibbitt is not exactly the nicest guy around, but he isn't a corrupt monster or money-grubbing fiend.
7) Tom Kenny Is Dead
For obvious reasons, this theory can easily debunked by a simple Google search.
8) The Post-Movie Writers Are Sociopaths
Most likely started by MrEnter, who said, "If you write _____, you're a bad person." As far as I know, the post-movie writers are decent, respectable people. (With the exception of Richard Pursel, who was a jerk long before he started working on Spongebob.)
