Basically, they’re Christmas items you get at the store which are a calendar for December 1-25. Behind each number is a small gift (usually a Christmas-themed piece of chocolate), so kids don’t have to feel like they’re waiting forever for the end of the month to feel rewarded.

Do you own an advent calendar, do you get one annually, and/or do you even celebrate Christmas? (I know the latter may be an odd question, but one of my friends here is Jewish and celebrates Hanukkah)

Yes, but here's a caveat: It's just a plain, old, ordinary Advent calendar. No chocolates. No expensive trinkets behind each date. Just a cardboard one I bought from a religious shop a few years back. When you open the date, there's a small quote from scripture.

I honestly didn't know that Advent calendars with any sort of gifts in them were even a thing, until I read this article last month: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2017/nov/16/ridiculous-rise-luxury-advent-calendars-500-pound-beauty-boxes-pork-scratchings-christmas

That sort of thing makes me want to throw up. Whether or not you're religious, the greed and vanity which has seeped into nearly every aspect of a once austere holiday (whose religious origins center on a poor child born in a backwater town) are getting a little ridiculous. As Charlie Brown says, "Oh, good grief!"

Little chocolates for the kids, okay. Beauty products for vain men and women who ostensibly refuse to grow up; give me a break. o.o

I agree that Christmas can be a bit too materialistic sometimes, with the example of chocolate Advent Calendars. I do have an Advent Calendar, but it is a wooden one where you hang a small wooden ornament on it for every day in December. I like to use it because it shows just how fast the time can go by.

Also, I owned a SpongeBob one years ago, but it was from Frankford, which makes the most disgusting chocolate I've ever tasted

My sisters were given a similar Tsum-Tsum advent calendar over the weekend by a family friend of ours. It's so cute!

I myself don't have one, mostly cuz I've grown to hate the cheap chocolate and they stopped selling SpongeBob ones and I ain't buyin' a friggin' Minions one.

I would like this one they did for the Disney Animator Dolls. That was cute. You get little dolls and accessories.

Yeah. I've been super obsessed with Tsum Tsum figures since last year. The UK is lucky because they get both figures (American figures are from Jakks Pacific, European/Asian ones are from Zuru). :P
